**Position Overview**
The research program of Farid Mahmud, Scientist and Pediatric Endocrinologist at The Hospital for Sick Children (Sick

Kids) and Professor at the University of Toronto, is seeking a highly motivated Dietetic Student to join a recognized pediatric diabetes research program focused on improving outcomes for children, adolescents, and young adults living with type 1 diabetes.

This position is ideally suited for a student currently enrolled in a Dietetics, Nutrition, Public Health,



or related graduate training program who is interested in gaining hands-on experience in clinical nutrition research and diabetes.

The successful candidate will contribute to nutrition-focused research activities related to an international study (i.e., Adolescent Type 1 Diabetes Cardio Renal Intervention Trial, AdDIT) examining long-term health outcomes in youth with type 1 diabetes.
**Key Responsibilities**
Review and process participant dietary intake records.

Enter dietary data into the Automated Self-Administered 24-Hour Dietary Assessment Tool (ASA24), following a standardized protocol.

Review ASA24 entries and resolve or flag uncertainties related to foods, beverages, portion sizes, preparation methods, ingredients, and food descriptors.

Perform quality assurance checks on food record entries and ASA24 outputs to identify missing, inconsistent, or potentially implausible data.

Generate, download, organize, and manage ASA24 output files and dietary nutrient/food level data for subsequent analyses.

Assist with data cleaning, coding, and organization of nutrition-related research data.

Support literature reviews and evidence synthesis related to nutrition and diabetes research.

Participate in manuscript preparation activities, including reference management, table development, formatting, and drafting selected sections under supervision.

Assist with preparation of abstracts, presentations, and knowledge translation materials.

Attend research team meetings and contribute to study-related discussions as appropriate.

Adhere to research ethics, confidentiality requirements, and study standard operating procedures.
**Qualifications**
Currently enrolled in a Dietetics, Nutrition, Public Health, Health Sciences, or related undergraduate or graduate program.

Interest in diabetes care, clinical nutrition, and research.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Previous research experience is considered an asset but is not required.




**Preferred Qualifications**
Experience with dietary assessment methods, food records, or nutrition analysis software.

Coursework or clinical experience related to diabetes management.

Experience with scientific writing, literature reviews, or academic publications.

Scientific manuscript development and publication processes.
