As a key member of the Product Design Capability Center and reporting directly to the Head of Product Design, you will be responsible for building and stewarding a global, cross-crop framework and system to prioritize and optimize investments in the early part of the breeding pipeline.

In this role, you sit at the intersection of science, strategy, and business, translating complex portfolio data into clear investment decisions that maximize value across crops and regions.

The Product Design Capability Center drives the technical and strategic foundation of Bayer's breeding programs, and your work will be essential to ensuring that early-pipeline resources are allocated where they can deliver the greatest impact.
**YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
•Establish and maintain a consistent global prioritization framework that combines business potential, strategic importance, probability of success, investment requirements, and timing for early-pipeline breeding programs;
•Create a transparent, comparable portfolio view across six or more crops and four world regions, integrating common data definitions, assumptions, confidence levels, and regional context;
•Translate prioritization data into investment recommendations that identify where to increase, maintain, phase, redirect, or stop funding to maximize portfolio value and manage risk;
•Lead cross-crop and cross-region alignment with business, strategy, finance, and breeding leaders to resolve trade-offs and secure shared ownership of investment decisions;
•Monitor portfolio performance and refresh allocations as business priorities, technical evidence, probability of success, costs, and pipeline needs evolve,



clearly communicating decisions and expected impact;
•Provide technical, strategic, and product knowledge to the Capability Center, contributing meaningfully to key global Precision Breeding, Breeding, and R&D; areas;
•Lead and contribute to global breeding strategies and the Long-Range Plan (LRP), ensuring alignment with high-level functional and commercial goals;
•Engage strategically with key universities to coach and guide future talent development, positioning Bayer as a strategic talent destination of choice;
•Drive a culture of Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E;), Compliance, DEI, Business Conduct, and Human Rights across the Capability Hub.
**WHO YOU ARE**
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
**Required Qualifications:**
•Advanced degree (PhD or MS) in Plant or Animal Breeding, Quantitative or Statistical Genetics, Data Science, or a related field;
•Strong knowledge of advanced breeding technologies, advanced analytics and information technologies, genomics, and/or quantitative genetics, with a proven track record of application;
•Demonstrated ability to lead teams with effectiveness in driving technical strategy, innovation, and people development;
•Experience building cross-functional partnerships across commercial, R&D;, finance, and strategy teams in a global, matrixed organization;
•Strong VACC (Visionary, Architect, Catalyst, Coach) leadership competencies;
•Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex technical and portfolio insights into clear business recommendations.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
•PhD in Plant or Animal Breeding, Quantitative or Statistical Genetics, Data Science, or a related field with 8+ years of technology leadership experience, or MS with 10+ years of technology leadership experience;
•5+ years of experience leading teams with demonstrated effectiveness in driving technical strategy, innovation, and people development.

•In the US, employees can expect to be paid a salary between ($154300 to $231500).

This range reflects the national US market rate (“salary range”) for base pay for the relevant role.
