About the position The Senior Marine Inspector’s duties and responsibilities include the following:

Inspection of ships for regulatory compliance, seaworthiness, and protection of the marine environment, and issue inspection certificates.

Investigates a wide variety of accidents, pollution incidents, and alleged infractions of the Canada Shipping Act and Canada Labour Code.

Acts as project manager on multi-faceted audits/inspections of vessels covering nautical, marine engineering, and naval architecture.

Conducts examinations and issue certifications for seafarers in accordance with the Marine Personnel Regulations.

Audits ship safety systems, ship navigation, cargo handling and stowage procedures.

A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

A valid Canadian Certificate of Competency as a Second-class Engineer (Motor Ship or Steamship) or higher (see Notes 2 to 5).

Note 1: The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are: A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience. Note 2: Candidates will be asked to provide proof of education and/or proof of Canadian certificate of competency. Experience

EX1: [Five] years of experience in marine design, construction, repair, operation, inspection,



quality assurance or other marine related areas or in technical or operational management of ships or marine related electrical engineering/technology or as master or chief mate or second or third-class engineer on ships of 150 gross tonnage or more.

Asset Experience

AEX1: Experience as a chief engineer on vessels.

AEX2: Experience as an employer representative or health and safety committee member /representative with respect to the Canada Labour Code Part II or the equivalent provincial health and safety legislation.

AEX3: Experience in the development or implementation of safety management systems.

AEX4: Experience in the development or implementation of quality assurance programs or systems.

AEX5: Experience as a port captain or as an independent surveyor or as a surveyor for classification societies, Protection and Indemnity Clubs (P&I; Clubs).

AEX6: Experience in design, construction or repair of commercial vessels or serially produced small vessels.

AEX7: Experience in managing large technical projects.

AEX8: Experience as a marine superintendent of a vessel.
