CAP Engineering (CAP)

is seeking an

Intermediate Civil Designer

to join our team in

St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador .

The successful candidate will have strong civil design experience and be comfortable supporting a broad range of municipal, transportation, land development, industrial, energy, and infrastructure projects.

This role is well suited to a technically strong designer who can work independently, collaborate with engineers and project managers, and take ownership of high-quality civil design and drafting deliverables.

Responsibilities may include:

Preparing and developing civil engineering drawings, plans, profiles, sections, and details.

Creating and updating design models using

AutoCAD and Civil 3D .

Supporting the design of municipal infrastructure, roads, grading, drainage, water, sanitary, stormwater, and site development projects.

Preparing construction drawings and tender-ready design packages.

Developing grading plans, servicing plans, utility layouts, roadway geometry, drainage plans, and other civil design deliverables.

Preparing quantity calculations, material take-offs, and supporting cost estimates.

Incorporating survey information, field data, engineering markups, and client comments into design documents.





Coordinating drawing packages and design information with engineers and other disciplines.

Reviewing drawings for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with applicable standards.

Supporting the preparation of technical specifications, reports, proposals, and other project documentation.

Assisting with construction support, field reviews, record drawings, and design revisions as required.

Identifying design or constructability issues and working with project teams to develop practical solutions.

Supporting quality assurance and quality control processes.

Providing guidance and support to junior designers and technologists where appropriate.

What We’re Looking For

Diploma or degree in

Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering Design, Drafting , or a related discipline.

Approximately

5–10 years of relevant civil design experience .

Strong proficiency with

AutoCAD and Civil 3D .

Experience preparing detailed civil engineering drawings and construction packages.

Experience with grading, drainage, roads, underground utilities, municipal infrastructure, and site development.

Strong understanding of civil design and drafting standards.

Ability to interpret survey data, engineering markups, specifications, and technical information.

Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality deliverables.

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work within project schedules.

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineers and multidisciplinary project teams.

A practical understanding of construction and constructability.

Experience with

municipal infrastructure, transportation, land development, industrial or energy projects, quantity calculations, surveying, construction support, or project coordination

would be considered an asset.
