Description
A term adjunct position is open at the Smith School of Business for an instructor to teach at our main campus in Kingston, in a lecture-style undergraduate course in the Commerce program. The position is to teach Management Control – COMM 414 in the winter term. There are two sections available. Teaching one (1) section of Comm 414 will generally entail teaching 3 hours per week, in either two 1.5 hour sessions per week (24 classes in a term), or one 3 hour session per week (12 classes in a term), from January to April 2027. The successful applicant will be required to teach 100% of one section of COMM 414, with a maximum enrollment of 55 students.
Course Description
Management control is the process of assuring that the resources of the organization are used effectively and efficiently in the accomplishment of its objectives. This course deals with the design and implementation of accounting and non-accounting related controls from a managerial perspective. Through the use of case analysis, the course focuses on the broad aspects of policy for management control. This course is appropriate for those who plan to become qualified accountants, management consultants, and leaders of organizations
The open sections for COMM 414 have been scheduled in the Winter term as follows:
Section 001 - Wednesdays 6:30 PM to 09:30 PM
Section 002 - Mondays 04:00 PM to 05:30 PM / Wednesdays 02:30 PM to 04:00 PM
Compensation
The salary for a term adjunct teaching one section of a course in our Commerce program is $13,856 (excluding vacation pay). This salary is pro-rated based on course credit.
Qualifications
Qualifications include a Master's degree or PhD; several years of related experience; and experience teaching university courses.
