Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Archives Assistant will assist in the physical maintenance of collections. This may include:
Re-boxing and re-foldering records
Creating inventories/box lists
Matching records with inventories/box lists,
Physically relocating large collections, some of which may have national historical significance.
Basic archival conservation and preservation work, including surface cleaning and other rehabilitation of dirty and/or damaged records The Archives Assistant will assist with all other aspects of archival services. This may include:
Completion of digitization projects
Assisting with reference services, research, and records retrieval
Supervised application of processing and preservation priority metrics to archival records
Creation of written copy for use on the Archives website, blog, and social media promotions
Preparation of general correspondence
Assisting with Archives donation and accessioning paperwork
Providing general word processing
Laundering white cotton gloves at an adjacent building The Archives Assistant will perform other duties as required.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
• Must be a registered full time post-secondary student in an approved co-op program.
Must have completed a criminal reference check from within the last 6 months.
Must be able to lift boxes up to 45 lbs to shoulder height
Experience with historical and/or archival research would be an asset
Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills are a must.
Software experience with Windows, MS Office, and Internet applications.
o Fluency in MS Word and Excel would be an asset.
o Proficiency in Adobe software (e.g. Acrobat, Photoshop) would be an asset o Experience with digital imaging, digitization, and digital image editing would be assets
Customer service experience would be an asset
