Position Overview

We are seeking a pastor who loves God’s Word and loves people, and who desires to serve alongside a close-knit church family in the small rural town of Riverton, Manitoba - a community in the Interlake district of Manitoba with an approximate population of 1100 which includes the surrounding area. We are a smaller congregation which varies throughout the year from 60 to 30 adults, with a Sunday School program for the children.

Chapel is one of 60 churches within the Evangelical Mennonite Conference (EMC) and we expect our pastor to adhere to the EMC Statement of Faith and follow the traditions and guidelines outlined at www.emcconference.ca. We hope for a shepherd, teacher, leader, and fellow participant in the life of our congregation and community.

The pastor’s primary calling will be to lead and strengthen the church through faithful, engaging teaching of Scripture, while walking alongside people through the joys, challenges, celebrations, and difficult seasons of life. We are looking for someone who will point people consistently toward Jesus—not toward themselves—and who will help our congregation grow in faith, love, maturity, and service.

This is a ministry for someone who wants to do life with a church family: sharing meals, visiting homes and hospitals, celebrating milestones, walking with people through grief, encouraging ministry, and being a positive presence in our small-town community.

Primary Responsibilities

Preaching, Teaching & Worship

- Prepare and faithfully preach biblical, Christ-centered sermons that are relevant, engaging, and appropriate to the needs of our congregation.
- Teach Scripture in a warm, clear, gentle, and personal manner, helping people understand and apply God’s Word.
- Prepare for and lead corporate worship.
- Organize and communicate biblical and spiritual truths effectively.
- Provide theological leadership and guard the church against false teaching.
- Plan a healthy balance of worship, biblical teaching, fellowship, discipleship, and service.
- Oversee the church’s educational ministry.
- Encourage members to grow in their love for Jesus, knowledge of Scripture, and personal faith.
- Lead a youth service approximately once every three months.

Pastoral Care & Shepherding

- Provide compassionate pastoral care to individuals and families throughout the congregation.
- Make regular congregational home visits and develop genuine,



appropriate relationships with church members.
- Provide hospital and emergency visitation.
- Walk alongside people experiencing grief, illness, crisis, family difficulties, and other unexpected circumstances.
- Conduct weddings, baptisms, baby dedications, funerals, and other significant pastoral services.
- Provide pastoral counselling within appropriate professional and ethical boundaries.
- Be available to celebrate with people as well as to support them during difficult seasons.
- Be an approachable, attentive, and trustworthy shepherd whom people feel safe coming to with their concerns.

Leadership, Discipleship & Conflict

- Provide spiritual and pastoral leadership when church discipline is required, with wisdom, grace, courage, and a commitment to restoration.
- Address division, unhealthy conflict, and behaviours that threaten the unity of the church.
- Lovingly guide and correct the congregation when we fall short of biblical teaching or experience conflict.
- Hold the church accountable while maintaining grace, patience, and compassion.
- Respond to emotionally difficult situations by prayerfully seeking God’s wisdom rather than reacting primarily from personal preference or opinion.
- Encourage and equip members to use their spiritual gifts in ministry.
- Develop and strengthen small groups and other opportunities for fellowship and discipleship.
- Train and encourage members in personal evangelism.

Community & Mission

- Be actively involved in ministry and mission within the local community.
- Serve as a positive and constructive influence in our small-town community.
- Participate appropriately in ecumenical and interfaith activities.
- Encourage and support international mission work.
- Participate in the life and ministry of our conference.

Church Leadership & Administration

- Provide administrative leadership for church staff where applicable.
- Provide oversight and spiritual leadership for church activities, programs, and committees.




- Work collaboratively with church leadership and ministry teams.
- Provide pastoral oversight of building programs and major projects as needed.
- Monitor and help guide church expenditures so that ministry remains within the approved budget.
- Encourage and empower others to serve according to their gifts rather than attempting to do everything personally.

Details

This is a full time position, but we are open to considering someone who would prefer part-time.

Salary is commensurate with experience and will follow the guidelines set out by the Evangelical Mennonite Conference () – with a range of $50K - $60K for a bachelor’s graduate with one to ten years experience. A candidate who has completed college or university biblical studies or equivalent is preferred. The pastor will work closely with the RGC Prayer and Care ministerial group, and will report to the RGC Council through the RGC Leadership Team.
