Position Summary:

The role of the Packaging and Distribution Supervisor is to plan, coordinate and organize the efficient distribution and storage of materials and product. The incumbent supervises the cost, quality, quantity and efficiency of the storage and movement of product while ensuring good communication and cooperation between the Supervisors, Associates and other departments. The Packaging and Distribution Supervisor works cooperatively with the Packing and Distributions Manager at Crossfield in building efficiencies into transportation and distribution, including organizing the logistics and the transportation fleet for Crossfield; planning and directing the production and sales forecasting activities for Crossfield and liaising with other farm distribution departments.

General Duties:

1. Packaging Management

- Effectively plan, coordinate and organize the storage and packaging of mushrooms
- Coordinate with Harvest Department to advise on the daily sales requirements.
- Participate in the afternoon estimate walks and provide sales requirements.
- Create schedule for Associates to ensure optimum staffing levels daily.
- Attends daily morning sales conference call Crossfield.
- Provide motivation and support to all Packaging Department Associates
- Conducts daily departmental information meetings.
- Drive continuous improvement projects to reduce expenses and increase productivity
- Manage and evaluate machine resources to ensure productivity and minimal downtime
- Manage required inventory to meet packaging requirements using lean manufacturing principles
- Oversee timely and accurate data entry for required system entries (i.e. Avanti)
- Ensure SAP requirements are met to the expectations of the business
- Work collaboratively with multiple departments to provide superior customer quality and service
- Maintain professional suppliers and vendors relationships, representing Highline’s values in all in interactions
- Work cooperatively with the Packing & Distributions Manager at Crossfield in timely movement of finished product to customers.
- Manage the scheduling of drivers, shippers, box makers.
- Provides support and backup to Harvest & Distribution Liaison.
- Other duties as assigned.

Employee Relations

- Supervise the Packaging Supervisor(s) in managing the general conduct of Packaging Associates
- Issue corrective action and/or discipline when warranted with the assistance of Human Resources
- Assist the Human Resources Department in building a focused team of consistently trained Associates
- Act as a positive resource, providing motivation, support and guidance to all Associates
- Fosters and actively displays a spirit of cooperation and communication within and between departments
- Responsible for the continuous improvement of Associate productivity, quality, safety, and attendance

3. Scheduling

- Manage Packaging Associate, Packaging Supervisor and Packaging Lead Hand schedules
- Responsible for ensuring staff is properly utilized to minimize overtime and ensure the fair and equitable assignment of hours of work among Associates

4. Report Management

- Develop meaningful systems to gauge and report on business metrics to benchmarked best practices
- Deliver routine daily/weekly/monthly reporting and respond to basic to intermediate ad hoc data requests
- In support of all departmental operations, develop and provide periodic fiscal and/or annual based benchmark metrics to help guide the business in an a cost effective manner
- Respond to various inquiries from internal and external stakeholders including, as requested, providing fact based data to Executive members, Key Accounts Manager, or Managers as required

5. Other Duties

- As reasonably requested in aid of operations or culture compliance, perform other duties as may be assigned
- Provide meaningful continual improvement or innovation recommendations outside scope of responsibility
- Help with special events as requested

1. Safety

- Adhere to Safety Policies, including use of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other safety equipment
- Report unsafe conditions immediately to direct report or member of the Safety team
- Report all incidents, injuries or near misses immediately to direct report or Safety Advocate
- Cooperate in the Early & Secure Return to Work Program if an injury or medical illness requires accommodation

Qualifications:

- Education in a manufacturing or business program is preferred
- Lean manufacturing education and experience is preferred
- Fluent in English and a 2nd language is an asset
- One to Three (1-3) or more years manager level experience with progressive responsibilities, including managing a diverse team of more than 25 Associates in a complex and fast-paced environment
- Proven ability to increase productivity and control expenses, mentor Associates and maintain an engaged and positive work environment, and the ability to work cohesively with multiple departments
- Demonstrable strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize with an aptitude to effectively handle competing deadlines
- Positive attitude, high energy, confident and open minded approach to work and others
- Attention to detail and accuracy, appropriately balanced with the need to complete tasks
- Above average analytical skills, the ability to problem solve
- Capable of independent and self guided work and accepts and adapts to change
- Excellent interpersonal communications skills and professional behaviours, specifically maintaining confidentiality and sensitive information

Hours of Work:

- 5 days/week
- Public Holidays / Weekends as scheduled
- Daily shift end times vary based on production needs

Earnings:

- $64089.30 Annually
