Our client is a family-owned real estate group in Toronto with a substantial portfolio of commercial, industrial and residential properties, most of which they developed themselves. The accounting function supports a multi-entity structure of companies, joint ventures and partnerships.

The role is both hands-on and team management. You prepare the financial statements yourself, and you lead the accounting team doing the day-to-day.

What you will own
Prepare financial statements and full working-paper files for the companies, joint ventures and partnerships in the portfolio
Prepare year-end files for the external CPA firm and respond to their questions. Compilations mostly, a few reviews, no audits
Prepare annual property budgets and set tenant charges in Yardi Voyager
Direct and support the accounting staff,



review their work and coordinate deadlines
Improve accounting procedures, controls and recurring reporting alongside the CFO

What we are looking for
CPA designation
Robust, recent, hands-on experience personally preparing financial statements and complete year-end working-paper files. You need to be comfortable doing this work yourself, not only reviewing it
Advanced Excel, including complex formulas, lookups and analysis of large data sets
Experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff
Ability to manage detailed work across multiple entities and hit recurring deadlines
Interest in a long-term role with growing responsibility
Available in office five days per week in North York

Compensation and benefits
Base salary of $145,000 to $175,000, depending on relevant experience
Discretionary year-end bonus
