Do you enjoy building things for the web and have an eye for design? Are you curious about how websites work and excited to keep learning? Do you like solving problems, paying attention to the details, and turning designs into functional websites?

We are looking for a Junior Front-End Developer to join our team. You may have formal training, a recent diploma or degree, or 1–2 years of hands‑on experience building websites. We’re more interested in your ability to learn, your attention to detail, and your enthusiasm for web development than in having every skill listed below.

In this role, you’ll work with our development and design teams to build, test, and maintain custom websites and web applications for a variety of clients. You’ll have opportunities to work across WordPress, WooCommerce, Shopify, and custom web development while developing your skills alongside more experienced team members.

Core Skills
Valuable working knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3
Understanding of responsive web design
Experience working with Figma designs
Some experience with WordPress, including editing themes and templates
Basic understanding of PHP
Comfortable learning new tools, technologies, and development approaches
Strong attention to detail and an eye for design

Custom WordPress theme development
Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) and custom post types
WooCommerce
SASS/SCSS
Ajax
MySQL and databases
Shopify and Liquid
React or React Native
Building custom solutions to solve client‑specific problems

Job Duties
Build and maintain WordPress websites
Assist with WooCommerce and Shopify development
Develop and test interactive website components
Make updates and improvements to existing websites
Troubleshoot and solve front‑end and WordPress issues
Work with designers and developers to bring website concepts to life
Participate in testing, quality assurance, and website launches
Learn and develop new technical skills as part of your role
Contribute ideas and suggestions for improving website functionality and user experience

Compensation
Negotiable based on skills and experience, ranging from $23-27 as a starting point.

At this time we are not considering applications from out of the country, and the ideal candidate will work part‑time from our Nanaimo office, Tuesday to Thursday.

Fully remote positions are not an option for this role – applicants unable to relocate will not be considered.
