About the Position
Ascension Automation Solutions is looking for a skilled and motivated Metal Fabricator to join our team.

This is a fabrication and fitting position — not a welding-only position. Solid fitting ability is a must-have. The successful candidate will be responsible for reading drawings, measuring, laying out, cutting, fitting, assembling, and welding custom components and structures to precise specifications.

The majority of the work is completed independently, and the ability to accurately interpret drawings, determine dimensions, fit components together, and produce quality fabricated parts is essential. Welding is an important part of the position, but candidates must be comfortable and experienced with the complete fabrication process from measurement and layout through fitting, assembly, and final welding.

Qualifications and Core Skills

Minimum 3 years of custom fabrication and fitting experience required

Strong metal fitting and layout ability is required

Ability to accurately measure, fit, align, tack, and assemble components before final welding

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, and fabrication plans

Minimum 3 years of MIG and Stick welding experience required; TIG welding is an asset

Current CWB welding ticket(s) considered an asset

Ability to properly use precision measuring tools and equipment to take accurate measurements

Solid knowledge of the properties and characteristics of various metals and other materials

Ability to determine appropriate materials, dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication methods from drawings and specifications

Ability to identify and correct fit-up, measurement, alignment, and fabrication issues

Strong mathematical and analytical skills

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Ability to work independently and in a team setting

Ability to work closely with mechanical designers, welders, machinists, other trades, and supervisors to confirm measurements, calculations, fit-up, and fabrication requirements

Ability to discuss work assignments with supervisors and clarify expectations before beginning work

Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work

Excellent time management skills

Strong communication skills

Flexible and adaptable as project requirements and timelines change

Roles and Responsibilities
The Metal Fabricator will be responsible for producing custom parts, assemblies, frames, guards,



and other fabricated components while working from accurate measurements, drawings, specifications, and instructions.

A strong candidate will demonstrate the ability to:

Review drawings, blueprints, sketches, instructions, and sample parts to understand project specifications

Measure, mark, lay out, cut, and prepare materials for fabrication

Fit and assemble components accurately prior to welding

Interpret drawings and determine appropriate dimensions, angles, clearances, and fit-up requirements

Use fabrication and fitting techniques to ensure components are properly aligned, square, level, and positioned

Plan and organize the sequence of work required to complete a project efficiently

Select and set up appropriate fabrication equipment and machinery

Operate various fabrication equipment, including saws, grinders, drills, cutting equipment, and other hand and power tools

Perform MIG and Stick welding as required; TIG welding is an asset

Tack and weld fabricated components while maintaining proper alignment and dimensions

Perform quality control on completed pieces to ensure they meet drawings, specifications, and required tolerances

Work from sketches, prints, operation sheets, preliminary drawings, and written or verbal instructions

Identify and troubleshoot fabrication, fit-up, dimensional, and welding issues

Make adjustments and corrections as required to achieve proper fit and finished dimensions

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area

Perform routine maintenance and inspections of fabrication equipment

Follow all company Health and Safety policies and procedures

Work collaboratively with other trades and departments when required

Important – What We Are Looking For
The successful candidate must have strong hands-on fitting and fabrication skills. This position is not intended for someone whose experience is primarily limited to welding.

Candidates should be comfortable taking a drawing or sketch and independently working through the fabrication process, including:

Read drawing → Measure → Layout → Cut → Fit → Align → Tack → Weld → Inspect





The ability to accurately fit and assemble components before welding is a key requirement of this position.

Work Conditions

Ability to stand for extended periods

Ability to physically lift up to 50 lbs

Ability to work with metal, fabrication equipment, hand tools, and power tools

Overtime as required

Weekend work may be required

Work is performed in person at our Cambridge facility

Training for a variety of skills is available through internal and external training opportunities. Employee progress will be evaluated annually through performance reviews.

Starting wage rates will be determined based on skill and experience:

Mid-Range: $24.00–$29.00/hour

Senior: $30.00–$35.00/hour

Education and Experience

Diploma or certification in Welding, Metal Fabrication, or a related trade is an asset

Minimum 3 years of custom metal fabrication and fitting experience required

Demonstrated hands-on fitting experience required

Minimum 3 years of MIG / Stick welding experience required

TIG welding experience is an asset

Current CWB welding ticket(s) considered an asset

Red Seal in Fabrication / Welding is an asset
