BACKGROUND
Founded in 1995 by a group of experienced certification and testing experts, QAI Laboratories Ltd. (QAI) is a multi-national professional certification body, test laboratory, and inspection agency with offices throughout North America and Asia. We provide services to manufacturers of building products, electrical products, vehicles, and other regulated products. Recognition of the QAI name and logo have grown significantly over the past few years resulting in significant expansion of the business.

QAI is currently looking for a Technician – Doors & Windows testing - to join our Building Products team in Burnaby, BC.

DUTIES
The successful candidate will perform, but not be limited to, the following duties:

Perform physical testing of fenestration products (windows, doors, and skylights) to determine physical performance of products

Construct and install test samples per standard requirements

Accurately record and document test results into a concise report

Conduct factory inspections, including traveling throughout Canada and the USA to perform inspections at manufacturing sites.

Clearly communicate with customers through written and verbal communication regarding their projects.

Review drawings and documents relating to a variety of fenestration product to determine compliance with the relevant codes, standards, or regulations.

Become familiar with the QAI quality system and administrative procedures.

Interact effectively and professionally with customers and staff.

Work independently and be self-motivated.

Provide support to the QAI sales team.





Participate in an energetic diverse team with a can-do attitude.

Other duties as assigned by the manager or its designee.

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will:

Have a technical diploma or completed a related trades program from an accredited Institution. The following subject areas of education are beneficial: science or engineering technology diploma such as Technical Writing, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Architectural and Building Technology or anything related to building science and construction industry.

Be able to write reports using technical terminologies pertaining to the industry.

Recent graduates are welcome to apply; Experience with construction methods and building science would be a plus

Be able to read and understand a set of technical plans and drawings.

Possess the ability to read, understand, and apply technical codes and standards towards product certification, testing, and inspection projects.

Be personable, friendly, and able to explain code and regulatory requirements to clients both verbally and written in English.

Work well in a diverse team environment.

Possess MS Office skills and proficiency with email. Hold a valid Canadian driver's license.

Hold a valid passport or be able to obtain a valid passport to gain access to the USA and other international destinations.

Be self-motivated, detail oriented, adaptable and eager to learn

Accepts instruction and follows it for testing outside of their general scope of knowledge and experience.

Able to grasp general concepts in a field of testing and apply it to specific test methods.

Able to perform testing and as knowledge grows in a specific field of testing graduates to more complex testing methods.

Seeks assistance and knowledge from more senior personnel when a specific requirement is outside of their general scope of knowledge.

Good working knowledge of the test methods in their specific discipline.

Able to multi-task with some degree of efficiency and accuracy.

Maintains a sense of ownership and responsibility for projects assigned to them

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license.

Additional Assets include

Previous experience with construction materials and building code compliance practices in the US and Canada
