An exciting chance to learn and grow on a "Chest Focused" inpatient unit. Unit 61 provides pre-op and post-operative care to Thoracic Surgery patients. Unit 61 provides care to the acute Pulmonary Medicine, adult Cystic Fibrosis and complex medical patient population. Unit 61 provides excellent learning prospects while working alongside our Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Educators and Nurse Clinicians.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing secure, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA).



Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Minimum 6 months experience (recent within last 1 year) of acute medical/surgical inpatient nursing experience required. Demonstrated Ability to work as a team. Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining collaboration with team members. Effective communication (written and verbal). Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads. Demonstrated accountability, critical thinking, interpersonal and communication skills required. Demonstrated strength in critical thinking. Ability to start IV’s. Experience with Acute Pain Service Patients. Ability to maintain collaborative relationships with all members of the multidisciplinary team. Knowledge and experience with SCM computer system. Demonstrates behaviors consistent with the values of AHS - compassion, accountability, respect, excellence and safety. Demonstrate ability to manage change.
