Position Summary

Are you a skilled data analyst with a passion for research, ready to lead the development of systems that evaluate and report on a university’s research impact both internally and globally? Join us as our new Research Information Analyst!

Reporting to the Director, Office of Research Services ( ORS ), the Research Information Analyst will develop systems to evaluate and report on the University’s research performance internally, as well as relative to its peer institutions in Canada and internationally by collecting, synthesizing, curating, and conducting statistical analysis of research performance data from internal and external sources.

The incumbent will define and manage the entire analytics process for the research enterprise from defining key questions to designing and delivering alerts, dashboards, recommendations and internal/external reports. The successful candidate must interact and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders within the University including ORS and ORPI staff, senior leadership ( VPR , AVPR , Director ORS ), OIR , deans and associate deans research, IS, Financial Services, Library, and others. This position will fulfill an essential function within ORS as it relates to the unit’s overall information management processes and information governance. Ultimately, they will serve as a subject matter expert on information management practices for ORS , advising the Director and driving business process improvements in data capture, storage, retention, interpretation, and dissemination.

What You’ll Do:

Research Performance Reporting

Track research proposal successes, interdisciplinary synergies, and benchmark UofR’s performance against other institutions.

Report institutional research data to external agencies and prepare detailed reports for Deans to support strategic decisions.

Stay current on reporting technologies, recommend tools, and generate custom reports based on user requirements.

Manage data design and accessibility for reporting processes, and maintain internal standard operating procedures.

Information Management

Act as subject matter expert on information management processes, providing advisory services on records management, file naming, metadata, and data protection.

Design and implement a records management architecture, ensuring compliance with university, funder, and financial policies.





Develop and administer information management processes, retention schedules, and coordinate training programs for staff.

Conduct research, recommend process improvements, and ensure integration of best practices in information management and security across the department.

Management of Research Tools & Resources

Plan and develop a secure repository for successful grant applications, ensuring privacy, accessibility, and efficiency, and creating related user manuals, SOPs, and templates.

Create a framework for submissions to the repository, including processing, logging, organization, retention, and archiving.

Design and implement a communications and outreach plan for the grants repository, starting with key funding programs (e.g. Tri-Agency)

Manage the Researcher Satisfaction Survey, including analysis, reporting, and coordination with ORS and ORPI ,

Overseeing the ORS website and supporting Research Data Management initiatives

Position Requirements
What You’ll Bring to this Position:

Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, statistics or a related discipline

Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience, with progressive experience in research administration involving preparation of reports and conducting analyses of research performance data.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in the Role:

Knowledge of research administration and the research funding environment in Canada.

Experience recommending, establishing monitoring, tracking and reporting on KPIs and metrics





Understanding of University policies, procedures, and their application to research

Proficiency using Excel (e.g., charts, formulas, pivot tables) and business intelligence reporting tools, such as PowerBI

Proficiency in using dashboard design tools, such as Tableau

Knowledge and understanding of relational database concepts and data modelling

Demonstrated high level of problem solving and critical thinking skills, logical reasoning and argument

Quantitative mathematical and numerical analysis; ability to analyze and interpret numerical/financial data

Exhibit sound and accurate judgment and demonstrate accuracy, attention to detail, and thoroughness

Proven ability to actively listen and communicate effectively, demonstrated through adept oneon-one interactions, small group consultations, and engaging presentations

Ability to follow administrative and data management processes

Experience in fostering effective communication with internal and external stakeholders such as clarifying project roles, expectations, and timelines with all parties.

Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Demonstrated ability to excel in an independent, highly confidential, dynamic environment.

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex concepts and strategic initiatives to diverse audiences, inspiring enthusiasm and buy-in across all levels of the organization

Physical Demands
Pay Grade APT 5

Salary Range 71,745.00 - 96,825.00 annually

Status Term

Work Hours 8:15 – 4:30, Monday to Friday

Duration (if Term/Temporary) 3 years, with possibility of extension or becoming permanent.
