The Role:
The Real Estate Accountant has responsibility for managing the property accounting function, including management of the Yardi system. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a team environment and will have a natural curiosity in exploring income statement variances, providing commentary and recommendations to the Property Managers to ensure our assets are operating effectively and cost effectively. There is prospect for the right candidate to support the development team, with accounting specific input for active and future projects, including investment and financial analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare monthly financial statements and provide management with commentary on significant revenue and expense variances





Assist the management team with various corporate functions such as payroll, IT and corporate accounting

Recruit, train and mentor junior accounting staff such as Asper co-op students

Work with various stakeholders to prepare annual budgets and forecasts and complete year end requirements such as financial statements and operating cost reconciliations

Manage the Yardi software and assist in system upgrades as needed

Qualifications & Skillset:

Completion of a certificate or diploma program in accounting

Minimum 5 years experience in a similar role, preferably in a real estate setting. A combination of education and experience will be considered

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Experience with property management software is an asset

Strong attention to detail and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy

Ability to effectively manage time, adapt to change and comfortable in working through ambiguous situations
