About theOpportunity Reporting to the Director of Facilities and Infrastructure, the Community Safety Coordinator designs and implements community-led safety programs. The Coordinator acts as a liaison between community, government agencies (i.e. Public Safety Canada, Regional District of East Kootenay)



and law enforcement, to address local priorities like violence prevention, emergency response and restorative justice. The incumbent will also coordinate ʔaq̓am Administration health and safety processes. The role relies on embedding cultural safety, trauma-informed practices and traditional knowledge into public safety frameworks.
Your key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Embed Ka Kniⱡwitiyaⱡa values—protection, connection, and collective care—into all community safety and emergency planning
Work collaboratively with Elders, staff, and community members to incorporate traditional knowledge and land-based safety teachings
Facilitate healing circles, focus groups, and community forums to identify local safety concerns and develop grassroots solutions
Support youth and school-based safety education initiatives in partnership with ʔaq̓amnik̓ School and ʔaq̓amnik̓ youth
Coordinate the development and implementation of safety, prevention, and outreach programs
Coordinate meetings, track actions and administrative support to the Task Force on Community Safety and the Community Consultative Group
Prepare regular reports, safety statistics,



and updates for the Director of Facilities & Infrastructure and senior leadership.
In order to qualify for the Community Safety Coordinatorrole, you must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role, Diploma or degree in Public Administration, Indigenous Studies, Criminology, Social Work, or a related field.
Proof of a clear criminal record including vulnerable sector check. Provision of a clean driver's abstract and a Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Salary will commensurate with experience from a range ($60,000-65,000) and includes a favorable benefits package and pension plan.
Preference will be given to candidates of Ktunaxa or other Indigenous ancestry and ʔaq̓am encourages applicants to self-identify within your application.
