Canada Post is looking for a Postmaster to serve the community of Buck Lake, Alberta — a role that puts you at the heart of your community as the face of Canada's national postal service. This is a permanent, full-time position with a set weekly schedule, making it ideal for someone who values stability, community connection, and the responsibility of running a local post office.
As Postmaster , you'll be both a community liaison and an operational leader — promoting and selling postal products and services , managing day-to-day post office functions, and ensuring that residents and businesses in the area receive reliable, high-quality service. This role reports to the Superintendent/Local Area Manager and requires someone who's comfortable juggling multiple priorities while keeping a strong customer focus.
About the Role: Postmaster (Group Office)
The Postmaster is responsible for the full operation of a community post office in Buck Lake. This includes selling and promoting Canada Post products and services , managing postal revenue and assets, maintaining accurate records, and preparing reports. You'll also assist with mail delivery route management , sort mail to postal boxes as needed, and keep the post office clean and presentable according to Canada Post standards.
A key requirement of this role is that the successful candidate must be able to provide suitable premises in a central, barrier-free location within the community within 30 days of hire. Postmasters are responsible for costs associated with operating those premises, including rent or lease charges, heating, lighting, maintenance, snow removal, and insurance. A leasing allowance of $2,914.00 per year is provided to help offset these costs, and an additional supplemental allowance may be available annually. Staff supervision may also be part of the role.
Benefits and Salary
This permanent full-time position offers a wage of $22.10 per hour at 32 hours per week , with a structured Monday-to-Friday schedule. In addition to the hourly pay, the role includes a leasing allowance of $2,914.00 per year to help cover the costs of operating a post office, plus a potential supplemental allowance paid out once annually. Responsibilities
Day to day, the Postmaster keeps the Buck Lake post office running smoothly — from serving customers at the counter to managing back-end postal operations. These responsibilities require strong organizational skills, a genuine commitment to community service , and the ability to handle multiple priorities with consistency and professionalism.
Liaise with the local community regarding Canada Post services and products
Sell and promote postal products and services to both the public and local businesses
Administer the post office to meet retail hours of operation and delivery expectations
Manage postal revenue, assets, and values with accuracy and accountability
Maintain records and prepare reports as required
Assist with the effective management of mail delivery routes
Sort mail to postal boxes as needed
Supervise staff where applicable
Maintain a neat, clean, and presentable post office in line with Canada Post standards
Provide suitable premises in a central, accessible location within 30 days of hire
Requirements / Skills
The ideal candidate is someone who is comfortable in a public-facing retail environment , takes pride in their community, and can handle both the operational and interpersonal aspects of running a post office. Canada Post values candidates who are organized, physically capable , and ready to take on the responsibility of premises ownership or leasing.
High School Diploma or provincial equivalency and/or experience in business administration
Owned or leased premises that are suitable, centrally located, and barrier-free — available for review and approval at least one month before hire
Experience interacting with the public in a retail and/or service environment, including sales and cash transactions
Knowledge of regulations, methods, and procedures for processing mail and providing postal services
Physical fitness to lift mail containers of up to 50 lb, push or pull boxes, sort mail, and stand for extended periods
Ability to operate the post office with due diligence and efficiency
Compliance with all conditions of the Canada Post Act and applicable premises requirements including property and liability insurance
High School Diploma, or provincial equivalency and/or experience in business administration; owned or leased premises (suitable, central and barrier-free) available one month prior to the date of hire; experience interacting with the public in a retail and/or service environment, including sales and cash transactions; knowledge of regulations, methods and procedures for processing mail and providing postal services.
