Associate/Full Professor-Academic Geriatrician, Division Head & Peter Cipriano Chair, Senior Health Closing Date: 10/28/2026 , 11:59PM ET The Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and the Division of Geriatric Medicine, Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre are seeking to recruit a qualified full-time Academic Geriatrician and Division Head who will also hold the Peter Cipriano Chair in Seniors Health.

The Division

Head is an accomplished and visionary leader who will drive clinical excellence and advance the academic mission of the Division. They will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Division's clinical, educational, research, and administrative activities, including program development, faculty mentorship and development, quality improvement initiatives, and interdisciplinary collaboration in the delivery of geriatric care. As the Peter Cipriano Chair in Seniors Health, the successful candidate will help advance the Peter Cipriano Centre for Seniors Health as an internationally recognized leader in integrated seniors care.

They will champion innovation and collaboration across the continuum of care, advancing models that improve access, quality, patient experience and outcomes for older adults and their families. Applicants must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto and will be expected to fulfill the academic position description of a Clinician-in-Quality and Innovation, Clinician Investigator, or Clinician Scientist. The allocation of protected academic time will be based on the academic position description and responsibilities of the successful candidate.

The expected start date is April 1, 2027, or a mutually agreed-upon date. The successful candidate will hold an MD degree and have, or be eligible for, certification in Geriatric Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).



The successful candidate will be a respected scholar with an outstanding reputation in clinical research, education, clinical innovation or knowledge translation, as well as demonstrated clinical excellence in geriatric medicine.

They will possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to foster collaborative working relationships across the organization and with partners, including the University of Toronto. The primary location of practice is Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Proficiency in English is required.

The successful candidate will report to the Physician-in-Chief at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and will lead the Division of Geriatric Medicine, which currently comprises 7 full-time academic geriatricians. The outpatient geriatric services are delivered through the Peter Cipriano Centre for Seniors Health. Opened in October 2025, this 13,000 sq. ft. centre was designed to optimize the experience of older adults and serves as the home of Sunnybrook's specialized geriatric services program, delivering evidence‑based interdisciplinary care integrated across the organization.

Services include a variety of clinics, a Geriatric Day Hospital, outreach services, subspecialty clinics, and audiology services. Estimated remuneration will be in the range of $300,000-$400,000 (fee for service/alternate funding plan estimate) commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience and we expect the candidate to be eligible for the Ontario Geriatric Medicine AFP. The successful candidate will be a member of the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association through which clinical billings and perks will be administered.

Relocation costs may be included.
