BORN Ontario is looking for a Clinical Content Specialist in Perinatal Health to provide clinical leadership and expertise in maternal and newborn health. This role helps ensure that BORN's work is grounded in current clinical practice, emerging evidence, and the needs of the Ontario perinatal health system.

The Clinical Content Specialist brings deep knowledge of perinatal care, including prenatal care, labour and birth, and the immediate postpartum period. They identify emerging issues, quality improvement opportunities, and changes in clinical practice, and help translate this knowledge into meaningful action through BORN's programs, data, research, and partnerships.

Working closely with clinicians, researchers, health system leaders, policymakers, and internal teams, the Clinical Content Specialist helps connect clinical practice, data, and evidence to improve care and outcomes across Ontario.

The role serves as a trusted clinical advisor and helps ensure that BORN's data collection, reporting, analysis, and knowledge translation activities remain relevant, accurate, and impactful.

The Clinical Content Specialist will be successful by: Identifying emerging issues and opportunities in perinatal health and helping shape BORN's priorities and strategy.

Connecting clinical expertise with data and evidence to identify opportunities for improvement.

Working with hospitals, providers, regional networks, advisory groups, and health system partners to influence practice, policy, and quality improvement.

Helping turn data into actionable insights that support better outcomes for patients and families.

Building strong partnerships that lead to measurable improvements in maternal and newborn health, experiences of care, and health system performance.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

- Contribute to the development and implementation of BORN Ontario's perinatal health priorities and strategic initiatives.
- Provide clinical expertise and guidance on maternal and newborn health, particularly labour, birth, and the postpartum period.
- Monitor emerging evidence, clinical guidelines, standards of practice, and innovations in perinatal care.
- Identify quality of care issues, practice variation, patient safety concerns, and opportunities for system improvement.
- Collaborate with BORN's Medical Advisors and Scientific Directors to provide clinical leadership for projects and partnerships.
- Help identify opportunities where clinical expertise and data can be used to improve health outcomes.
- Provide clinical input into the interpretation and use of BORN Ontario data and reporting products.
- Work with analytics teams to develop meaningful indicators,



reports, dashboards, and measures.
- Support quality improvement initiatives that use data to improve clinical practice and patient outcomes.
- Interpret trends and patterns in outcomes, service use, health equity, and quality of care.
- Partner with analytical experts to evaluate the impact of quality improvement initiatives and system changes.
- Work with BORN's Knowledge Translation team to translate evidence and data into practical tools, resources, recommendations, and guidance.
- Support knowledge sharing among clinicians, hospitals, regional networks, professional associations, and health system partners.
- Build solid relationships with clinical leaders, care providers, researchers, government representatives, and other partners.
- Lead or support advisory groups, working groups, communities of practice, and expert panels.
- Present findings, recommendations, and emerging issues to clinical, executive, and policy audiences.
- Provide clinical guidance related to perinatal health data definitions, indicators, standards, and data quality initiatives.
- Support the clinical relevance and accuracy of BORN's reports, publications, educational materials, and knowledge translation products.
- Identify gaps in data, evidence, or system performance and recommend solutions.
- Apply knowledge of clinical workflows and electronic medical records to support data collection and system improvement efforts.
- Support the use of BORN data and evidence in research, evaluation, and policy development.
- Participate in and support relevant research initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to use new evidence, technologies, and innovative approaches to improve care and outcomes.
- Contribute to evaluations of provincial programs and system-wide initiatives affecting maternal and newborn health.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, quality improvement, evaluation, and evidence-informed decision-making.
- Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor’s degree in a related health discipline (Essential)
- Professional clinical designation (Essential)
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in perinatal care (Essential)
- Proven related (perinatal/maternal newborn) research experience (Preferred)
- Experience and knowledge of health systems, and healthcare delivery in Ontario (Essential)
- Demonstrate knowledge regarding new trends in clinical practice and information systems (Essential)
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse partners, including health-care providers, community organizations, and people with lived experience (Essential)




- Demonstrates exceptional project and change management skills, methodologies and principles (Essential)
- Knowledge and experience in perinatal databases, data analysis, academic and published literature, data collection for quality improvement or research, and indicator reporting (Essential)
- Comprehensively use computer technology and equipment; proficiency in MS Office suite (Essential)
- Demonstrates exceptional analytical, problem-solving and facilitation skills (Essential)
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, presentation, oral and written skills (Essential)
- Demonstrates a growth mindset and commitment to continuous improvement (Essential)
- Contributes to a positive work environment and high performing team standards (Essential)
- Demonstrates understanding of engagement principles and practices, particularly in health care or public health settings (Preferred)
