About You / What We Are Looking For The City of Coquitlam is seeking motivatedindividuals to join our auxiliary Communications Operator 1 auxiliary pool. Inthis casual role, you will support civilian police operations at the CoquitlamRCMP Detachment, home to one of the few independent police operationalcommunications centres in the Lower Mainland. Reporting to the TelecommunicationsSupervisor, you will receive comprehensive on-the-job training to prepare youfor the demands of this fast-paced and highly rewarding environment. As part ofa dedicated team, you will respond to both emergency and non-emergency callsfrom the public, using your robust listening and communication skills to gathercritical information, assess and prioritize calls, prepare accurate reports,and provide timely information to the public and police officers in the field.

The ideal candidate is a respectful,resilient, and service-oriented individual with strong judgment anddecision-making abilities.



You demonstrate empathy while maintaining theconfidence and assertiveness needed to manage a variety of interactions andprovide exceptional service to the public. You are able to remain calm underpressure, think critically, and make accurate decisions in time-sensitivesituations while maintaining professionalism and composure with callers, policepersonnel, and colleagues.

Requirements

Completion of Grade 12.Preference will be given to those with additional education, training, orrelated experience (e.g. courses in Public Safety Communications, Criminology,Conflict Resolution, Crisis Intervention, Law Enforcement Studies, and other relatedfields.)

Considerablegeographical knowledge of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and surroundingcommunities.

Familiarity with theCriminal Code of Canada, Motor Vehicle Act, and other relevant federal,provincial, and municipal laws and acts.

Proficiency withWindows-based computer programs and the ability to type at a net speed of 40words per minute.

Availability to work avariety of shifts in a 24/7 operations centre, including days, nights,weekends, and statutory holidays.

This position requires an RCMP Enhanced ReliabilitySecurity Clearance that will be administered to those who are successfulthrough the process. This process may take up to 1-year. Obtaining andmaintaining a security clearance is a condition of employment.

What We Offer

T his CUPEposition has an hourly rate range of $35.59 to $41.91 (2026 rates) and 12% inlieu of benefits. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors includingqualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
