Event Server & Business Development (Catering Sales)

Oak; Catered Events · Kelowna · $25/hr commission bonus tips

Oak; is a chef-led catering company doing weddings, galas, corporate events and canapé receptions across the Okanagan, and we're the exclusive caterer at the Kelowna Event Centre. We're growing, and we're looking for one person to help bring in new business while working as part of our event team.

The role

One day a week, you'll find and open doors to new clients: corporate teams, conference and association organizers, wedding planners and venues. The rest of your hours, you'll work our events as part of the service team. That puts you in the room seeing what Oak; delivers, which is exactly what you'll be selling.

What you'll do

- Build and keep up a target list of Okanagan businesses, organizations, planners and venues
- Reach out personally by email, phone, LinkedIn and in-person visits
- Run first conversations with prospects and qualify leads (date, guest count, budget range, format)
- Hand qualified leads to our Culinary Director for quoting, and follow up on open proposals
- Track your pipeline in a shared lead tracker, with a short check-in each week
- Serve at events: canapé and dinner service, setup and guest care

Schedule

One flexible business development day per week (weekdays, daytime), plus event shifts, mostly Friday and Saturday evenings.

Pay

$25/hr for all hours, plus a bonus for every event you bring in ($ for events over $10,000), paid once the client has paid.

Tips from events are split equally by hours worked. Travel time and gas are paid for some events outside Kelowna.

You need

- Sales experience where you found your own clients, preferably in hospitality, events, hotels, wineries or venues
- 1 year of serving experience
- Confidence reaching out cold, and patience with a sales cycle that takes months
- Strong written communication
- Serving It Right certification, or a willingness to get it before your first shift
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada
- Reliable transportation, and availability for evening and weekend events

Assets

- An existing network among Okanagan businesses, planners or venues
- Catering, hotel or venue sales experience
- Experience with a CRM

How to apply

Send your resume and answer the questions below. Next steps are a phone call, brief in-person meeting, a paid trial event, and a short paid sales exercise.

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5.0 – 20.0 per week

Benefits

- Adaptable schedule
- On-site parking

Application question(s):
- Do you have a valid driver's licence and a reliable vehicle?
- Explain your highest level of fine dining serving experience.
- In 2–3 sentences, describe a client you brought in yourself: who they were, how you found them, and how it closed.
- Name one type of Okanagan business or organization that should be booking a premium caterer, and how you'd get in the door.
