Supervised exercise classes are offered at various community facilities throughout the Olds, Sundre, and Central Alberta areas, virtually, or via supervised home exercise program, dependent on the status of the client and their delivery preference. The exercise classes are designed to help clients to either commence or maintain an exercise program that is appropriate for their chronic condition. The goal of the exercise classes is to promote safe, effective and enjoyable exercise, while encouraging independence and long-term exercise adherence. Currently this position supports the Breathe Easy Rehabilitation Program which assists individuals with a respiratory-related chronic health condition, to support health self-management and to optimize health-related quality of life. This community-based program works in tandem with a registered respiratory therapist (RRT) and endeavors to assist Central Zone clients, focusing on respiratory-specific interventions, but also including strategies to manage co-morbid conditions. Hybrid work supported when in person interaction/assessment not required. Candidate must be located in the service area and able to travel within the communities on a regular basis.

Description:

As an Exercise Specialist, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, delivering exercise assessment, training, rehabilitation, risk factor identification, exercise programs and self-management services for individuals and/or groups of patients within a designated portfolio.



You will facilitate improvements using a patient-and family-centred model of practice where you will deliver ongoing patient education (in the form of individual, small or large classroom settings) to patients, family members, and other healthcare professionals as part of the rehabilitation plan. You will be involved with program delivery and client care, program planning, program promotion, and program evaluation.

Required Qualifications: Completion of bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Exercise Physiology, or equivalent exercise science degree. Active membership with the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology, and Clinical Exercise Physiologist and/or American College of Sport Medicine, Exercise Specialist.

Additional Required Qualifications: Ability to meet the physical demands of the job. Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License. Access to a vehicle in good repair to be used for work related travel as per required.

Preferred Qualifications: 1-2 years of experience within the last 5 years working client facing as an exercise specialist. Previous experience working in an interdisciplinary team is an asset. Previous experience working with Respiratory Therapists. Connect Care training is an asset. Experience and comfortability delivering services virtually and in person.
