Ironbooks does the books for trades contractors and teaches them what the numbers mean.

We serve 100+ trades businesses across the US and Canada. AI categorizes 96.3% of their transactions, and a real accountant reviews and signs every month-end close.

Our platform, Snap, runs on Next.js, TypeScript, Supabase and Vercel. We build it with Claude Code and Cursor every day.

The role

You'll sit with our accounting team to build and improve the tools they use all day.

While our internal categorization system is robust and quite capable, our bookkeepers still do too much by hand. They chase uncategorized transactions, fix duplicates that a contractor's CRM pushed into QuickBooks, reconcile bank feeds, and clean up a new client's first year of messy books.

Your job is to watch where their hours go and take those hours away.

The number you own is how many clients one bookkeeper can carry without the quality dropping.

What you'll build

- Workflows to improve the team's lives & efficiency.
- A rules engine and exception queue, so bookkeepers only see the transactions that need a human
- Better AI categorization, from 96.3% toward 98%
- Reconciliation checks that catch a missed deposit or a duplicate before the close
- Automation for new-client cleanup, which today takes hours per file.

What you bring

- 3+ years building full-stack web apps in TypeScript, React or Next.js, and Postgres




- AI coding tools are part of how you work every day, and you've shipped LLM features that real users rely on
- Double-entry bookkeeping makes sense to you: debits and credits, a chart of accounts, bank reconciliation, accrual versus cash
- Patience to sit with a bookkeeper for a morning and see what's slowing them down
- Creativity to be able to come up with novel workflow solutions
- Canadian resident, eligible to work in Canada permanently

Bonus points

- Bookkeeping or accounting experience, or time as a QuickBooks ProAdvisor
- Experience with the QuickBooks Online API or Plaid

- $100,000 to $135,000 CAD base salary, based on experience
