All final hiring decisions are made using non-AI related processes.## Job SummaryThe Office of Professional Development and Educational Scholarship (OPDES) offers a variety of academic services to meet the educational and research needs of the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Services include individual, departmental,



faculty-wide and institutional consultations on all aspects of the educational process at the Faculty level, as well as provide support and leadership with curriculum and course design, assessment strategies, program evaluation, research on teaching and learning, and accreditation. The Office will also be engaged in event planning for the Faculty of Health Sciences.Reporting to the Senior Director of OPDES, the incumbent is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating programs and services to collaborate and advise on the research, training and teaching and learning needs of the Faculty of Health Sciences community.

Responsibilities include collaborations and consultations with academic and clinical units to offer discipline-specific programs, the coordination of programs offered through the OPDES, and the promotion and implementation of the scholarship of teaching and learning. The incumbent also participates in setting the direction and influencing decisions for curriculum and educational matters, as a member of the priority decision-making educational committees at all levels.## KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Review, and evaluate curriculum innovations and recommend and implement strategies for the development and continuous improvement of comprehensive and responsive systems of course and program review and evaluation; identify, recommend, and implement changes for existing programs and oversee the creation of new programs for further growth to meet the University's strategic goals.

- Plan, implement and evaluate programs and services to support the training and the teaching and learning needs of the Faculty of Health Sciences community. Participate in setting the direction and decision-making for curriculum and educational matters, as a lead member of the priority decision-making educational committees. Contribute to the development, planning and implementation of faculty and university wide policies and procedures as they relate to teaching and learning.
- Participate on university-wide committees including the quality assurance process; AODA educators and for accreditation review of programs.
- Provide information, support and advice regarding teaching and curriculum development issues and programs; develop and facilitate workshops on teaching and learning for faculty; develop, coordinate,



implement and evaluate one or more programs; analyze needs and determine priorities for educational development and teaching support.
- Support departmental teaching development and research programs through consultations, facilitation, workshop development; implementation and evaluation for further improvements. Provide consultations on teaching and learning; involve teaching observations, focus groups, and/or other teaching assessments; analyze stakeholder/departmental needs; and work with departments to setup educational priorities.
- Work as part of a team of educational leaders and promote teaching and learning at Queen's; contribute to the enhancement of the profile of the OPDES; manage, develop, and implement communications initiatives for the various programs and opportunities offered. Develop resources including website content pertaining to teaching and learning, publications and the library. Prepare reports, schedules and advertising for OPDES. Liaise and coordinate with core support services across the university (CTL, ITS, Library, HR, Student Affairs, SGS etc.).
- Maintain knowledge of current educational development trends and translate the knowledge gained into practice of program development and offerings.
- Participate in the OPDES budget development and allocation of financial resources to programs. Oversee specific OPDES program spending as it impacts the overall OPDES budget.
- Identify and apply for potential funding opportunities; contribute to applied research and scholarship in the field of educational research.
- Support and inform faculty members' own educational research.
- Contribute to applied research and scholarship in the field of health education research.
- Maintain teaching experience through workshops, guest speaking and other teaching opportunities that arise.
- Mentor and provide direction to Education Research Associates, Student Associates and work placement students. Direct workflow to support staff/students and participate in the hiring practice.
- Act as an OPDES contact regarding educational issues, and represent the OPDES as a key member on university committees related to teaching and learning; act as an OPDES representative at external events such as conferences and professional meetings. Act as back up and perform duties of the Director as needed.
- Plans, prioritizes and manages the work of employees, providing strategic and tactical advice, guidance and coaching. Identifies the need for staff resources, participates on staffing committees, and makes effective recommendations regarding employee selection.
