About the Role: International Tax Specialist
As the Tax Specialist at UPS Canada, you'll support the full spectrum of Canadian tax obligations — from preparing and filing corporate income tax returns, GST/HST, PST/QST, and withholding tax filings, to maintaining documentation and supporting schedule reconciliations. You'll also assist with tax audits and government reviews, coordinating responses to information requests from the CRA, Statistics Canada, and other agencies.
The role also calls for strong collaboration skills, as you'll regularly interface with Finance, Accounting, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Procurement, and Operations teams. Responsibilities
In this role, you'll be at the centre of UPS Canada's tax compliance activities, handling everything from return preparation to audit support. The responsibilities span both corporate income tax and indirect tax functions, giving you a comprehensive view of a large organisation's tax operations. Staying organised, meeting deadlines, and communicating clearly across teams will be key to your success.
- Prepare and file Canadian tax returns, including corporate income tax, GST/HST, PST/QST, and withholding tax filings
- Support tax compliance by maintaining documentation, monitoring deadlines, and preparing supporting schedules and reconciliations
- Assist with tax audits, government reviews, tax notices, assessments, refund claims, and information requests from tax authorities
- Coordinate responses to information requests, surveys, and statistical reporting requirements from the CRA, Statistics Canada, and other government agencies
- Conduct tax research and prepare analyses on current and emerging Canadian tax issues
- Collaborate with Finance, Accounting, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Procurement, and Operations teams on tax-related matters
- Review transactions for indirect tax compliance and identify opportunities for process improvements
- Support tax reporting, tax accounting, and tax provision activities
- Participate in tax technology, automation, ERP, and tax engine testing initiatives
- Monitor developments in Canadian tax legislation and assess potential impacts to the business
Requirements / Skills
The ideal candidate brings solid foundational knowledge of Canadian tax regulations and is comfortable working within a large, cross‑functional organisation. You'll need to be detail‑oriented and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Experience in both corporate and indirect tax is essential, and familiarity with tax technology platforms is a definite asset.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field
- Minimum 2‑3 years of Canadian tax experience in a corporate or public accounting environment
- Knowledge of corporate income tax, GST/HST, PST/QST, payroll tax, and withholding tax requirements
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with Oracle, SAP, or similar ERP systems is an asset
- Robust analytical, organisational, and problem‑solving skills with excellent attention to detail
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across teams
- CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA certification is considered an asset
- Bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset
- Experience supporting tax audits or tax authority reviews is considered an asset
