The Medical Laboratory

Assistant I primary responsibilities include collection of blood specimens from adults and children using macro and micro phlebotomy techniques, performing ECGs, complete urinalysis, accessioning patient information into the laboratory EPIC computer system, processing samples, transport of specimens and slides, troubleshooting problem specimens and reception duties. This is a multisite position in which shifts will be primarily at WestView Laboratory. Shifts at Devon and Leduc will be only as needed to support operations.

You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Successful demonstration of laboratory skills and data entry is required. Working within a team environment, good interpersonal skills, effective time management and the ability to set priorities are necessary. The successful candidate must be adaptable and flexible within an setting of change and interruptions. The candidate selected will have the ability to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relay information, directions or questions in person, over the phone or in writing in an accurate, clear and concise manner. The successful candidate must represent Laboratory Medicine and Pathology in a respectful, professional and courteous manner. Formal urinalysis education and recent urinalysis experience.
