Position Summary The Market Cost Analyst is responsible for gathering, analyzing, and interpreting market data to support pricing, sourcing, and margin optimization across R3’s core product categories, including janitorial supplies and foodservice packaging. This role plays a critical part in ensuring competitive positioning by monitoring market trends, validating product specifications, and aligning costs and selling prices across multiple regions in Canada.

The the Market Cost Analyst role is strategic business partner driving impactful decisions with focus on profitability, pricing decisions, and alignment across departments for revenue growth.

Key Responsibilities Market & Cost Analysis

Collect and analyze market data on product costs, selling prices, and competitive positioning across janitorial and foodservice packaging categories

Monitor trends in raw materials, freight, and supply chain dynamics impacting product costs

Identify pricing gaps, margin opportunities, and cost-saving initiatives

Product & Competitive Intelligence

Research and benchmark core items against competitors, including specifications, quality, and pricing

Gather and evaluate product samples to validate quality and performance standards

Maintain a database of comparable items across suppliers and regions

Data Collection & Reporting

Aggregate data from multiple internal and external sources across all regions in Canada

Build and maintain reports and dashboards using Excel and Business Intelligence (BI) tools

Provide actionable insights to support pricing strategies, sourcing decisions, and sales initiatives

Cross-Functional Collaboration





Collaboration with Sales, Purchasing, Operations, and Customer Service teams to ensure alignment on pricing and product strategies

Support product launches, promotions, and customer-specific pricing initiatives with data-driven insights

Assist in standardizing item setups, specifications, and costing methodologies

Detailed cost analysis and benchmarking empower teams to negotiate more effectively with suppliers.

Research & Tools

Conduct thorough internet and market research to identify comparable products, suppliers, and pricing benchmarks

Utilize BI platforms, Excel (advanced formulas, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables), and CRM data to analyze trends

Qualifications & Skills Required Skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

High level of organization and attention to detail

Ability to manage and synthesize data from multiple sources

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with BI tools

Strong research and internet sourcing skills

Effective communication and collaboration across departments

Preferred Experience

Experience in janitorial supplies and/or foodservice packaging industry

Understanding of product specifications, quality standards, and sourcing

Familiarity with distribution,
