Position Summary The Powerline Technician Apprentice develops the practical skills, technical knowledge, and documented work experience required to progress toward Journeyperson Powerline Technician status while working under qualified supervision.

The total wage package includes the hourly wage rate, vacation and statutory holiday pay, health and welfare benefits, and RRSP contributions.

Statutory holiday and vacation pay is paid at 10% of the applicable hourly rate. Health and welfare contributions are $4.00 per hour, and RRSP contributions are $8.00 per hour. CUSW administers the health and welfare and RRSP programs.

Overtime provisions are administered in accordance with the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement, including double-time provisions for Saturdays, Sundays, and statutory holidays.

Fidelity Utilities and CUSW have also established provisions for additional Living Out Allowance (LOA), as determined by the Company based on the location and requirements of the assigned work.

Core Responsibilities

- Report to the Foreperson and work under the direction and supervision of qualified Journeyperson Powerline Technicians.
- Participate in utility construction, maintenance, pole-line, material-handling, and restoration activities permitted for the apprentice’s level of training and experience.
- Follow tailboards, hazard assessments, safe-work procedures, grounding instructions, and minimum approach distance requirements.
- Assist with pole framing, conductor work, equipment installation, line maintenance, storm response, and other utility duties appropriate to the apprentice’s level.
- Complete required field records, apprenticeship documentation, training records, photographs, and assigned software reporting.
- Immediately report incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, equipment failures, and quality concerns.

Qualifications





- Grade 12 mathematics and English or recognized equivalent.
- Registered or eligible for registration in the applicable CUSW-recognized Powerline Technician apprenticeship program.
- Progression through apprenticeship periods is based on verified hours, required schooling, demonstrated competencies, and applicable apprenticeship and CBA requirements.
- Valid driver’s license appropriate for assigned duties and all required entry-level safety qualifications.
- Ability to use company-approved field software, tablets, and other required technology.
- Demonstrated reliability, safe conduct, willingness to learn, teamwork, and respect for supervision and customer requirements.

CUSW Hiring & CBA Administration

All hiring for Powerline Technician Apprentice positions with Fidelity Utilities is conducted through CUSW in accordance with the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement and established union hiring and referral procedures.

Union membership, dues, dispatch or referral requirements, perks, RRSP contributions, vacation and statutory holiday pay, premiums, overtime, and wage increases are administered in accordance with the governing CUSW Collective Bargaining Agreement.
