Product Engineering Technician

Franzen North America Inc. is part of the Franzen Group, with offices, warehouses, and production facilities internationally. The Kitchener, Ontario office serves all North American customers across the full Franzen Group product portfolio, with a current focus on the Waste Hauling and Gun Accessories markets. The primary activities of the North American operation include the import and marketing of existing products, engineering and customizing of products, and assembly processes.

The successful candidate will be embedded into a small local team while collaborating with Engineering Headquarters in Germany and the Czech Republic.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Franzen North America is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our product development team. Working in an office, workshop, and warehouse environment, you will be an active contributor to our North American product portfolio — not just a support resource, but a collaborative team member who brings curiosity, initiative, and independent thinking to daily engineering work.

You will work closely with the Product Technologist across CAD production, technical documentation, physical inspection, prototype fabrication, on-site customer support, and event logistics. This role is built on a collaborative working relationship; you are expected to take ownership of your assigned tasks, think critically when challenges arise, contribute ideas for improvement, and flag issues proactively. The right candidate will grow into a trusted partner in the day-to-day execution of Franzen's engineering work.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

CAD & Design Production:

- Create and update 3D models, part drawings, and assemblies in SolidWorks under the direction of the Product Technologist
- Produce multi-view drawings, sections, details, dimensions,



and Bills of Materials to defined engineering standards for existing and new products and components
- Generate DXF and DWG files for sheet metal fabrication, laser cutting, and machined components
- Configure and maintain Bills of Materials in the company MRP system under direction
- Manage and maintain all electronic and paper files and records related to products, technology, specifications, and technical documentation
- Support design ideation and concept development as a technical sounding board for the Product Technologist

Prototyping & Testing Support:

- Fabricate prototypes in support of product development programs using 3D printing and general hand tools under engineering direction
- Support product standards testing and validation activities at a task level as directed
- Execute rework and ECO-driven product rebuild tasks at the direction of the Product Technologist

Physical Inspection & Quality Support:

- Perform physical incoming inspection tasks as directed: measurement, visual inspection, documentation, and recording of results against defined drawing criteria
- Support in-house quality control activities by identifying problems related to production, materials, or incoming components and documenting findings for engineering review
- Assist with corrective and preventive action tracking under the direction of the Product Technologist to improve overall product quality and reliability
- Maintain accurate inspection records, drawing markups, and quality documentation as assigned

On-Site Customer Support:

- Travel with and support the Product Technologist during on-site customer sorting and defect resolution events, performing physical sorting, documentation, and rework tasks under direct direction




- Assist with field troubleshooting support at a physical task level as directed

Trade Show & Event Support:

- Assist the Product Technologist with trade show booth setup, configuration, and teardown at industry events as required
- Support logistics and physical booth assembly under direction of the Product Technologist

General Engineering Support:

- Assist with preparation of internal technical documentation, BOMs, and revision records
- Identify opportunities for improvements in quality and cost efficiency and document findings for engineering review
- Support productivity improvement and cost savings projects as directed
- Support general engineering tasks as assigned by the Product Technologist

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

- Completed a 2-year College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technician, Mechanical Design Technician, or related field with course transcript available
- Proficient use of SolidWorks for 3D modeling, assemblies, and detail drawings; coursework or applied experience accepted
- Intermediate understanding of mechanical drafting standards, GD&T;, and tolerancing
- Basic familiarity with metal components, die cast parts, and assemblies
- Basic familiarity with injection molded component design and tolerancing considerations
- Strong attention to detail, analytical problem solving, and effective decision-making skills
- Comfortable working independently on defined tasks with minimal supervision
- Willingness to travel occasionally for on-site customer support and trade show events
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- English proficiency required, written and verbal
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word

Pay: $58,200.00-$62,300.00 per year
