Recreation Manager – Long-Term Care

Gemstone Care Centre is looking for a Recreation Manager to join our Leadership Team and lead a recreation program that truly makes a difference in the lives of our Residents.

About the Role

As our Recreation Manager, you will provide leadership to the Recreation Team and oversee the development, delivery and evaluation of recreation and ambulation programs designed to support the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and cultural needs of our Residents.

You will work closely with Residents, families, staff, volunteers and community partners to create programming that is engaging, meaningful and grounded in Person and Family-Centred Care.

As a member of the Gemstone Leadership Team, you will also contribute to the overall culture, quality and success of our Home.

What You’ll Do In this role, you will:

- Lead, support and mentor our Recreation Team
- Develop and oversee a wide variety of recreation, therapeutic recreation and ambulation programs
- Get to know our Residents and ensure programming reflects their individual interests, abilities, goals and preferences
- Complete Social/Leisure Assessments and contribute to Resident Care Conferences
- Monitor participation and engagement and adjust programming based on Resident needs and feedback
- Create and communicate monthly recreation calendars and special events
- Work collaboratively with Residents, families and the interdisciplinary care team




- Support community involvement, volunteers and meaningful partnerships
- Monitor Residents who may be experiencing changes in social engagement and collaborate with the care team when concerns arise
- Recruit, orient, coach and provide ongoing leadership to Recreation Assistants
- Support performance development and foster a positive, respectful and accountable team culture
- Manage the Recreation department budget, equipment and supplies
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits and Accreditation activities
- Bring creativity, energy and new ideas to how we create meaningful experiences for Residents

The Recreation Manager plays an important role in ensuring our programming remains Resident-focused, responsive and engaging.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is both a recreation professional and a people leader.

You enjoy building relationships, developing teams and creating programs that have real purpose. You can balance the fun and creativity of recreation with the organization, documentation, leadership and accountability required to manage a department.

Our ideal candidate brings

- A post-secondary degree in Therapeutic Recreation
- Approximately 5 years of recent experience in gerontology
- A minimum of 3 years of management or leadership experience
- Eligibility for membership with the BC Therapeutic Recreation Association (BCTRA)
- Strong knowledge of recreation and health-care practices related to long-term care
- Strong communication, organization and relationship-building skills
- Confidence coaching and supporting a team
- The ability to prioritize,



problem-solve and adapt in a busy environment
- Basic to intermediate Microsoft Office skills
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Experience with both Activity Pro and Point Click Care

Post-graduate education or certification in Gerontology is considered an asset.

Pay: $80,000.00-$87,000.00 per year
