Our client is seeking a qualified and empathetic Sports Psychologist to support athletes and teams in the Kimberley region. This vital role focuses on enhancing athletic performance through mental skills training, emotional regulation, and performance psychology interventions. You will work closely with athletes, coaches, and sports organizations to foster resilience, improve focus, manage pressure, and promote overall mental well-being.
The ideal candidate will possess robust clinical skills, a deep understanding of sport performance principles, and excellent communication abilities to build trust and rapport with clients, contributing to a culture that values mental health in sports.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct assessments to identify mental and emotional barriers affecting athletic performance.
Develop and implement individualized mental skills training programs, focusing on areas like confidence, focus, and stress management.
Provide counseling and support to athletes dealing with performance anxiety, burnout, and injury recovery.
Work with coaches and teams to foster positive team dynamics and optimal performance environments.
Educate athletes and stakeholders on the importance of mental health in sports.
Maintain confidential client records and adhere to ethical guidelines for psychological practice.
Requirements
Master's or Doctoral degree in Sport Psychology , Clinical Psychology, or Counseling Psychology.
Registered or eligible for registration with the relevant South African professional body (e.g., HPCSA).
Minimum of 3 years of experience working directly with athletes and sports teams.
Proficiency in evidence-based psychological interventions and performance enhancement techniques.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
Understanding of ethical principles and best practices in sport psychology .
