Your Opportunity:

The Halvar Johnson Centre for Brain Injury is a 48 bed inpatient rehabilitation program. It is a high intensity program designed for people with a moderate to severe non-progressive acquired brain injury between the ages of 16-65. Under the direction and supervision of the SLP II, the Therapy Assistant – Brain Injury works with Complex Brain Injuries and Stroke patients with moderate to severe brain injuries. You will be involved in communication, voice, language therapies as well as swallowing therapy. You have good time management skills and the ability to manage a complex case load.

Description:

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement,



program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications: Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications: You have strong communication and organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary team. You demonstrate excellent observation, organization, and communication skills. You can communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner.

You have robust problem solving and interpersonal skills. CPR required –BLS for Health Care Providers Level C. Physically capable of carrying out this role which deals with heavy and complex patients and may involve transfers, mobility, and some transfers.

Preferred Qualifications: Greater than 3 months experience working in an inpatient rehabilitation interdisciplinary team providing care for stroke and brain injured patients is desired.
