About The Tomorrow BriefThe Tomorrow Brief is For Every Tomorrow’s mental health publication, covering developments and issues across British Columbia, Canada, and internationally.

We publish four types of articles:

News · Analysis / Explainer · Feature / Deep Dive · Opinion

Our goal is to make mental health and addiction topics accurate, accessible, responsible, and understandable to a general audience.

The RoleWe are looking for Volunteer Editors to join The Tomorrow Brief’s editorial team.

Editors serve as an important final checkpoint between a writer’s submission and publication. You’ll review articles for more than grammar — you’ll consider whether the piece is accurate, appropriately sourced, clearly structured, fair in its presentation, suitable for its article type, and written responsibly.

You’ll work directly with contributors to strengthen their work while preserving their individual voice.

What You’ll Do

- Review submitted articles before publication
- Edit for clarity, structure, grammar, flow, and readability
- Review factual claims, sources, quotations, and attribution
- Check that sources genuinely support the claims being made
- Identify unsupported or overly definitive statements
- Ensure News reporting remains neutral and distinguishes fact from commentary
- Review Analysis pieces for evidence, causation, uncertainty, and appropriate interpretation
- Review Features for responsible treatment of interviews and lived experience
- Review Opinion pieces while preserving the writer’s viewpoint and ensuring factual claims remain accurate
- Flag potentially misleading, stigmatizing, sensationalized, or inappropriate language




- Provide clear and constructive feedback to writers when revisions are required
- Complete final editorial checks before articles are marked Ready to Publish
- Collaborate with writers and the wider Tomorrow Brief team through Signal and Trello
- Participate in brief weekly team meetings when available

Who We’re Looking ForYou do not need to be a qualified journalist. We’re particularly interested in people with experience or education in areas such as:

journalism · editing · communications · writing · publishing · law · public policy · research · health communications · English or related fields

Strong candidates will

- Have excellent written English and close attention to detail
- Be able to distinguish between factual reporting, analysis, narrative writing, and opinion
- Be comfortable checking sources and verifying factual claims
- Recognize when evidence does not support the strength of a writer’s statement
- Understand the importance of neutral language in News reporting
- Give constructive feedback without unnecessarily rewriting a contributor’s work
- Approach mental health, addiction, suicide, grief, and lived experience with care and good judgment
- Be reliable, communicative, and comfortable working independently
- Be willing to learn and apply The Tomorrow Brief’s editorial standards consistently

CommitmentRemote | Volunteer We’re looking for editors who can contribute each week consistently. The workload will vary depending on the number of submissions, and we aim to distribute articles reasonably across the editorial team.

The Tomorrow Brief also holds a short weekly virtual team meeting.
