Your Impact as a Youth Safety Monitor

As a Youth Safety Monitor, you will maintain a safe, alert presence in our homes so that the children and youth in our care, and the staff who support them, have a steady environment around the clock. You will observe, intervene when situations escalate, and keep an accurate record of each shift, working under the direction of the Team Lead and Monuwehkahal management. The role involves regular contact with the young people in our homes, but not their direct care.

Our homes operate 24/7, and shifts include evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays. The role suits someone who stays calm and attentive through long and often quiet shifts, and who acts quickly and appropriately when a situation changes.

Your Responsibilities as a Youth Safety Monitor

- Maintain an awake, alert, and visible presence throughout each shift, providing supervision of children and youth as directed by the Team Lead or Monuwehkahal management
- Intervene in escalating situations using NVCI de-escalation techniques to maintain the safety of children, youth, and staff
- Conduct regular checks of the residence and monitor access, logging all visitors and refusing entry to unauthorized persons
- Respond to emergencies, including fire,



medical, and missing-person situations, in accordance with Monuwehkahal policies and procedures
- Keep an accurate, factual log of observations and incidents, and report them to management
- Maintain the confidentiality of all information about the children and youth in our care

What We’re Looking For (Preferred Qualifications)

- Experience in child and youth care, security, corrections, or a similar setting where you have been responsible for the safety of others
- Experience working with children or youth who have experienced trauma (preference may be given to candidates who have worked specifically with First Nation children or youth in care)
- ASIST or Mental Health First Aid certification
- An understanding of trauma-informed care principles

What You Must Have (Minimum Qualifications)

- Current NVCI certification
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification
- Ability to remain awake and alert for the full duration of overnight shifts
- Sound judgment and the ability to stay calm under pressure
- Robust observation skills and the ability to write clear, factual shift notes
- The discretion to handle sensitive and confidential information about children and youth
- Availability to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to successfully pass a criminal background and vulnerable sector check

Pay: $20.00-$23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
