Department: Emergency DepartmentThe Emergency Department is open 24 hrs/day 7 days per week. It is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of registered nurses, registered respiratory therapists, social services, crisis intervention, orthopedic technicians and other members of our health care team.QUALIFICATIONSCertification/Experience/Knowledge:Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing requiredCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (HCP) Certificate is required (recent within the last twelve months)Current Advanced Cardiac life Support (ACLS) Certificate (within 2 years) requiredCoronary Care Course (min. 25 hrs.) and/or Lead II/12 Lead Interpretation Course (min. 25 hrs.) requiredMinimum (2-3 years) experience working on a Medical or Surgical Unit requiredMinimum (1-2 years) experience in Emergency (within the last 2-3 years) requiredCanadian Triage & Acuity Scale (CTAS) Certification an assetExperience in Mental Health Nursing an assetCourses in: Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Emergency Nursing Certification preferredMust have or be able to obtain certification of added nursing skills and delegated medical acts specific to Emergency by the end of orientation period:Cardioversion/defibrillationApplication of external pacemakerSkills/Abilities:Must demonstrate excellent level of interpersonal skillsMust demonstrate excellent level of written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work both independently and collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team, clients, families,



regional support services and community partners requiredAbility to provide health teaching to individuals and groups requiredMust be committed to continuing education on an annual basis and demonstrate commitment to quality improvement requiredAbility to effectively assume a leadership role as a collaborative member of the health team requiredAbility to assume responsibility for patient care in a total patient care climate requiredAble to meet the physical demands required to provide nursing care to all patients requiredAbility to problem-solve and function in fast-paced environment requiredExcellent demonstrated assessment, critical thinking and intervention skills requiredMust demonstrate basic computer knowledgeMust demonstrate commitment to ensure personal safety, safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitorsAbility to support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events requiredMust demonstrate positive attendance and work recordBilingualis m (Advanced level English/French) is required.
