Parenting Program FacilitatorThe role of the Program Facilitator is tofacilitate the BGCC Parenting Program(s) and ensure that the programs provide asafe, supportive group environment where parents can access resources,knowledge and additional skills to improve and strengthen their relationshipswith their preteens and teens.What's in it for you?Wage: $25.00 - $28.00, depending on qualifications and experienceHours: Part-Time (0-10 hours per week), Monday–Friday, Evenings required.Location: Comox Valley, BCGroup Facilitator Responsibilities Include:Attending thegroup(s) on a weekly basis and facilitating the learning processEncouraginga healthy group processProvidingappropriate guidance and parent education on various topicsMediatingissues as required ensuring healthy group dynamicsMeasurement& evaluation of the effectiveness of the group processEnsuringall families have access to support to assist in the building and maintenanceof healthy, successful families.Providinga safe and supportive place where parents can experience new learningopportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and developconfidence and skills for life.Recognizethe limits of the program and refer parents to other professionals, services,and agencies as appropriate.Makes arrangements for facilities andmaterials necessary for group sessions.Plans sessions in a consultative processwith participants. Conducts sessions, acting as a facilitator or co-facilitatornot a counselor.Conducts program evaluationand obtains participant feedback on group effectiveness, material presented,facilitation style, etc.



Reports any difficulties to supervisor.Maintains all necessaryparticipant and program reports and statistics.Maintainsup-to date knowledge of community resources in order to provide program-related information to participants. Maintains contact with participantsbetween sessions in order to provide follow-up support if necessary.Performsother related duties as requiredProvidingoffice hours for participant & community engagementMaintainscontact with participantsbetween sessions (as needed) in order to providefollow-up support if necessaryProfessional Guidelines and PracticesThe Program Facilitator will adhere to allconfidentiality policies within the program model and adhere to privacyregulations and laws.While i n a group setting and engaged in ahelping relationship with a parent, the Program Facilitators will remain in astrictly skilled relationship.Program Facilitators will provide allrequired documentation required by Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada (BGCC) –Parenting Programs and maintain confidentiality standards.The Program Facilitator will not work inisolation and will seek support through their Program Coordinator and/orsponsoring agency supervisor and the BGCC- Parenting Programs Manager – PacificRegion in order to promote a healthy de-briefing process and self-care.In addition,



the Program Facilitator willseek support in dealing with difficult situations that arise in the groupsetting, and offer referrals to other agencies if Parenting Programs are notthe appropriate models of support.Program Facilitators will be an activemember of the community in which they offer support and will be well-informedof other supports available and work with other agencies as required.QualificationsEducationA diploma, Bachelor or Master's degree insocial service/human services or a related field, or the equivalent educationand experience.Demonstration of on-going, life-longlearning process.Education in group leadership, programdevelopment and facilitation.ExperienceExperience in group facilitation within asocial services setting.Experience in public speaking/leadinggroups/teams.Experience in program planning and implementation.Experience in working in helpingrelationships and an awareness of the importance for clear boundary settingwithin these relationships.Knowledge, skills and abilitiesExcellent leadership skills.A comprehensive understanding of groupdynamics and family processes.A basic comprehensive understanding of awide variety of topics in the field of family life education, includingadolescent development, attachment theory, compassionate communication andself-care.Valid First Aid/CPRWorking conditionsThis position is expected to work twoevenings a week.BGC Central Vancouver Island is an equity employer and encourages applications from persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities, Indigenous people, people of all sexual orientations and genders, and others who may contribute to a diverse and inclusive staff team.
