Job TitleGraduation Coach for Black Students(12‑month temporary position)Salary and Exempt LevelExempt Level 2– $71,336.00 – $89,169.00ResponsibilitiesAct as a mentor and an advisor to the students and play an essential role as an advocate for each learnerEngage Black students by affirming the identities and culture of Black students through culturally responsive and relevant methodologiesWork with a range of stakeholders that support the learning of Black studentsProvide qualified learning to staff about anti‑racism, anti‑oppression, dismantling anti‑Black racism, and transforming school cultureWork with the Equity team and other stakeholders to create a long‑term vision/plan for identified at‑risk Black studentsEstablish a safety plan during breaks in regular programming (i.E. long weekends, extended breaks, etc.) for participating studentsBuild/maintain information on each individual student, throughout the year to track and monitor academic achievements and well‑being (i.E., suspension/expulsion, credit accumulation, attendance)Create space for students to voice their experiences to enable the school board to establish trusting relationships and responsive servicesIdentify and address individual barriers to student engagement, learning and well‑beingCollaborate with administrators including various stakeholders and broader community in responding to individual and systemic barriers (e.G., academic, mental health, justice)Facilitate access and referrals to academic support and community resources to provide an integrated support system for the studentsPerform other duties as assigned or requiredQualificationsMinimum of 3‑year college diploma/degree in Social Sciences, Counselling or related fieldMinimum of two (2)



years of related experience providing comprehensive mentoring, outreach, and supportive services to students in‑person and/or in a virtual environmentPreference will be given to candidates who self‑identify as Black/African Canadian and/or who possesses comprehensive first‑hand life experience deeply rooted in the local Black communitiesUnderstanding of the barriers and challenges faced by Black students within the communitiesAwareness of local community resources and ability to support students in accessing and navigating these resourcesUnderstanding of the intersections of race, gender, faith, socio‑economic status, ability, sexual orientation, and gender identityAbility to identify systemic barriers such as anti‑Black racism, Islamophobia, and other forms of oppression and to propose appropriate intervention pointsBroad understanding of and an inclusive approach to relationship building with diverse stakeholders in the community and in schoolsExcellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skillsDemonstrates sound judgement and sensitivity, and ability to build rapport with various stakeholdersExperience in handling contentious issues with sensitivity, confidentiality, tact and discretionEquality, Diversity, and InclusionAs an equal opportunity employer, TCDSB welcomes applications from individuals who would contribute to the further diversification of our staff, including but not limited to Indigenous, Black, 2SLGBTQ+, and other racialized groups.
