The Accountant will work cross-functionally with other internal teams including Finance, Actuarial Services, and Claims, as well as other key stakeholders to ensure a timely and accurate closing. The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills, be comfortable with learning new systems and have a solid understanding of accounting.Job Responsibilities:Month-end close:Ensure all cash entries are processed for the month on a timely basisPrepare and post claims results from the policy administration systemIdentify and record related party transactionsPrepare monthly management reports related to claims activity and cash movementPerform financial analysis, investigate variances,
and provide explanationsComplete month-end close process in accordance with internal and external requirementsQuarterly/annual reporting:Compile and validate data for P&C filingsReview / validate contingent commission calculationsSummarize underwriting activity for reporting to internal / external actuariesCoordinate quarterly IBNR and litigation reserve reviews and record the reserve changesPrepare and maintain selected balance sheet account reconciliationsBackup and other support:Master data maintenance in accounting systemSupport the submission of OSFI P&C/AMF/BC FilingsParticipate in finance transformation projectsAd hoc requests from managementQualifications:Bachelor of Commerce or equivalent from an accredited universityRecognized accounting designation, preferably Chartered Professional Accountant3+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, preferably in the insurance industryUnderstanding of GAAP and IFRS, knowledge of IFRS 17 is considered an assetExcellent verbal, and written communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environmentStrong analytical and accounting skills, high level of attention to detailAble to work independently with minimal supervisionCompany Benefits:Together, we engage with everything we have and are, to help humankind act braver and better.
