Position SummaryReporting to the Chair of the School of Health Sciences, this position will support the protected and efficient operations of the OTP clinical labs and placements in collaboration with the Program Coordinator, Placement Coordinator, and Lab course instructors. Accountabilities will include on site student support, teaching support, and implementation and maintenance of laboratory procedures and equipment.ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the program team, which includes the Program Coordinator, Placement Coordinator, and Lab Course instructors, the OTP support staff is responsible for:Acting as the lab lead for all casual/part-time lab technicians including onboarding processes as neededConsulting with the course instructor and attending all preparatory laboratory meetingsEnsuring student awareness of lab course objectives, approach, and evaluation techniquesReviewing blackboard for lessons and updating the course shells as directedReinforcing, demonstrating, assisting and supporting pre-learned principles and their application to skills and proceduresProviding a learning environment that makes effective use of laboratory equipmentSupporting and maintaining lab safety,



cleanliness and organizationProviding observation of student skills and progress using developed guidelines and criteriaReporting on student progress/achievement to the lab course instructor(s)Maintaining records of attendanceTaking inventory of all consumables used in the OTP labs and directing orders as neededMaintaining and monitoring the wear and tear of all OTP equipment and suppliesUpdating lab plans and assessments as directed by course instructorSupporting organization of students on evaluation days in labsMaking connections for future clinical placement sitesEnsuring an equitable and accessible learning communityQualificationsEducation, Qualifications and Other RequirementsMinimum two (2) year diploma in OTA/PTAMembership in CAOT, or OSOTValid CPR and First Aid certificationCompleted WHMIS/Hazardous materials trainingExperienceMinimum two (2) years of clinical experience as an OTA/PTAPrevious formal or informal lab technician experience is considered and assetSkillsStrong interpersonal, problem-solving and communication skills (written and verbal) to interact with the college's multi-cultural/racial/able staff, students and the public.Understanding of and commitment to equity in educationCommitment to a team approach for problem-solving and conflict resolution.Demonstrated ability to provide clarity in guiding/advising others to accurately explain processes and proceduresAbility to organize workload, establish priorities and work with minimal supervisionExcellent clinical skills in OTA/PTA
