Together we are more than 5,000 dedicated faculty, librarians and staff supporting the University of Victoria's diverse academic programs, world-class research and commitment to civic engagement.This position is eligible for a modified work schedule.Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Head of Metadata and reporting to the Metadata Supervisor (Cataloguing), the Metadata Assistant carries out resource description on material covering a wide variety of subjects, languages, and formats to enable discovery of library resources. This involves the creation of MARC and BIBFRAME authority and bibliographic records, the assignment of subject headings and classification numbers, and may include the creation of metadata for digital objects. The incumbent will provide cataloguing and metadata services for analogue and digital objects within the Library's Alma Library Services Platform (LSP), DSpace (UVicSpace institutional repository)



and Samvera digital library and other systems as needed.Job RequirementsExperience:This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a minimum of 2 years' experience working within a comparable environment, preferably in a post-secondary or institutional environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Knowledge, skills, and abilitiesDemonstrated commitment to valuing the principles of truth, reconciliation and respect, equity diversity and inclusion, and contributing to an inclusive working and learning workplace.Demonstrated ability to work in a respectful manner in a team environment with people from a broad variety of cultural backgrounds, and contribute to an inclusive working and learning environmentKnowledge of cataloguing and/or metadata standards employed in an academic environment (e.G. MARC21, RDA, CONSER, LCSH, LCC, DDC, Dublin Core, etc.)Knowledge of efficient searching and use of cataloguing and metadata online tools and databases (e.G. OCLC, Library of Congress cataloguing resources, etc.)Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail, time management,



and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environmentExcellent communication skills (both oral and written)Ability to work independently and within a team environment in a professional and conscientious mannerWillingness to take initiative and solve problems with limited supervisionAbility to follow international and local policy and proceduresExcellent analytical and research skillsEase with using technology and enthusiasm for applying technology to solve problemsExcellent organizational skillsFlexibility and willingness to adapt to new ideas and conceptsAdvanced proficiency with computer applications (i.E.
