Young Sprouts Therapy | Thornhill, Ontario
Part-time | In person
Compensation: $95–$115 CAD per 50-minute session, based on relevant experience and training
Schedule: Sundays plus one weekday, during daytime or after-school hours
Help children feel secure, strengthen family relationships and give parents practical support.
Young Sprouts Therapy is growing, and we’re looking for a warm, engaging therapist to join our child and family practice. Our preferred candidate enjoys working with both early childhood (ages 0–6) and school-age children (ages 7–12) and actively involves parents and caregivers in the therapeutic process.
We’re particularly interested in clinicians with a strong foundation in play therapy, attachment-based approaches and parent coaching. Theraplay training and experience are strongly preferred. Experience working with teens is an additional asset.

About the role You’ll support children and families through a combination of individual child sessions, joint child–caregiver sessions and parent coaching. For infants and very young children, the work will centre on caregivers and the parent–child relationship.
Families may seek support with emotional regulation, anxiety,
behavioural challenges, school adjustment, transitions, stressful experiences or difficulties within family relationships.
Your responsibilities will include
- Building trusting relationships with children and caregivers.
- Understanding each family’s concerns, strengths, developmental context and goals.
- Providing developmentally appropriate play therapy and attachment-based interventions within your training and competence.
- Facilitating child–caregiver sessions that support connection, communication and emotional security.
- Coaching parents in co-regulation, routines, supportive boundaries and responding to their child’s needs.
- Developing individualized treatment plans and reviewing progress with families.
- Maintaining timely clinical notes and documentation.
- Collaborating with our team and other professionals, with appropriate consent.
What we’re looking for
- Registration in valuable standing as a Registered Psychotherapist, Registered Social Worker, Psychologist or Psychological Associate in Ontario.
- Clinical experience working with children and their parents or caregivers, ideally across both the 0–6 and 7–12 age groups.
- Training and practical experience in play therapy and attachment-based approaches.
- Confidence providing parent coaching and facilitating sessions with children and caregivers together.
- A strong understanding of child development, emotional regulation and family relationships.
- A warm, playful and flexible approach that adapts to each child’s developmental needs.
- Respectful,
culturally responsive and neurodiversity-affirming care.
- Strong communication, organization and collaboration skills.
- Professional liability insurance and the ability to meet any applicable supervision requirements.
- Availability on Sundays plus one weekday, during daytime or after-school hours.
Preferred training and additional assets Theraplay training and experience are strongly preferred. We welcome Certified Theraplay Practitioners and clinicians with formal Theraplay training and relevant supervised experience. Please specify your training and certification level.
Other valued qualifications and approaches include:
- Certified Play Therapist designation or progress toward certification.
- Child-Centred Play Therapy.
- Child–Parent Relationship Therapy or other filial therapy approaches.
- Parent–Child Interaction Therapy.
- Child–Parent Psychotherapy.
- Circle of Security Parenting.
- Art therapy qualifications and experience using creative approaches with children.
- Training in trauma-focused approaches appropriate to the ages served.
- Experience supporting neurodivergent children and their families.
- Experience providing therapy to teens.
You do not need training in every approach listed. We value a robust foundation in child and family therapy, meaningful parent involvement and a commitment to working within your areas of competence.
