About the Role:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the HFHGV Construction & Maintenance Crew Member provides hands-on, skilled labour and technical support across Habitat's construction and community programs, including the Critical Home Repair Program, Kitchen Salvage (Deconstruction), the Youth Skills Program, corporate and community Build Days, and ongoing maintenance of HFHGV properties. This is a hands-on field position and does not carry supervisory or leadership responsibilities.

This role works closely with volunteers, partner families, and youth trainees, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality. Strong communication, reliability,



and the ability to work independently in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment are essential.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Critical Home Repair Program

● Performs hands-on repair work addressing safety, accessibility, and livability issues in partner family homes

● Supports the Construction Manager with site assessments, materials lists, and repair scheduling

● Ensures all repair work meets applicable safety, accessibility, and building code standards

2. Kitchen Salvage / Deconstruction

● Carefully dismantles kitchens, cabinetry, and fixtures for resale through Habitat ReStores

● Maximizes salvage of reusable materials and minimizes waste sent to landfill

● Coordinates pickup and transport logistics with ReStore and donor contacts as needed

1. Youth Skills Program

● Provides hands-on mentorship to youth participants in basic carpentry, tool use, and jobsite safety ● Models secure work practices and supports participants in building confidence and practical skills

● Assists program staff in supporting youth trainees on site, under the direction of the program lead

4. Build Days & Volunteer Engagement

● Sets up and supports tasks during corporate and community Build Days

● Provides clear, patient instruction to volunteers of all experience levels

● Ensures tools, materials,



and worksites are prepared and safe ahead of volunteer arrival

5. Property Maintenance

● Completes routine and as-needed maintenance and minor repairs across HFHGV properties, including ReStore locations

● Identifies and reports maintenance concerns or safety hazards to the Construction Manager

● Maintains tools, equipment, and a company vehicle (if assigned) in good working order

6. Health & Safety

● Follows all Health and Safety policies and guidelines

● Adheres to WorkSafeBC standards and HFHGV construction safety policies at all times

● Participates in site orientations, toolbox talks, and safety briefings

● Maintains accurate records of work completed, materials used, and hours on site

QUALIFICATIONS:

● 2–4 years of hands-on experience in residential construction, renovation, repair, or a related trade

● Working knowledge of WorkSafeBC safety requirements and general BC Building Code basics

● Comfortable working independently and mentoring volunteers or youth trainees on site

● Basic carpentry, plumbing, or electrical skills

● Physically fit and able to perform manual labour including lifting, bending, and outdoor work in variable weather

● Fair oral and written English skills

● Basic computer skills and ability to use apps on a mobile phone without assistance

● Valid BC driver's license and ability to travel to multiple sites across Metro Vancouver

● Works a flexible schedule that includes occasional evenings and weekends for Build Days and volunteer events

Pay: $18.25-$35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10.0 per week
