Cross Community Connections Worker

BGC East Scarborough is actively recruiting for a -time Cross Community Connections Worker (CCCW) to join the Project Reclaim team.

The Cross Community Connections Worker is responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering youth violence prevention programming, workshops, and community engagement activities for youth ages 10–29 who are at risk of or currently experiencing violence-related challenges, gang involvement, social exclusion, and other barriers to success.

The CCCW will work closely with the BGC East Scarborough youth team, schools, community organizations, and other partners across South Scarborough to strengthen relationships across communities, promote positive youth development, and support violence prevention and intervention initiatives.

The successful candidate will engage youth through culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive approaches, facilitate skill-building and educational activities, connect youth to appropriate community resources, and strengthen protective factors through mentorship, positive relationships, and community participation

Reporting to: Senior Manager, Youth Programs & Community Services

Major Responsibilities:

· Develop, coordinate, and facilitate youth violence prevention programming, workshops, and activities in school-based and community-based settings.

· Oversee Project Reclaim programming within Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) schools by developing and facilitating workshops and presentations focused on violence prevention, intervention, and positive youth development.

· Facilitate school-based workshops that support holistic healing and positive youth development in collaboration with Native Child and Family Services Toronto and other community partners, as appropriate.

· Provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive programming and mentorship to youth impacted by or at risk of violence.

· Support youth in identifying their strengths, needs, interests, barriers, and personal development goals, and connect them to appropriate services and resources.

· Build youth assets through workshops focused on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), cultural strengths, job preparation, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and positive decision-making.

· Develop and facilitate activities that promote positive identity, belonging, leadership, and community connection.

· Support cross-community activities that strengthen relationships, encourage collaboration, and promote positive interactions among youth from different neighbourhoods.

· Work collaboratively with the BGC East Scarborough youth team and partner agencies to ensure effective implementation of Project Reclaim and adherence to program goals.

· Research, identify,



and share local resources and best practices to strengthen program content and delivery.

· Identify emerging youth needs, community trends, and service gaps, and recommend strategies to improve program delivery and service coordination.

· Develop, maintain, and strengthen collaborative relationships with schools, colleges, universities, community organizations, and other service providers.

· Interact with diverse groups of youth in individual and group settings, fostering positive relationships and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

· Take a proactive approach to identifying potential challenges and creating opportunities for positive change.

· Conduct youth assessments and support goal-setting, referrals, and connections to appropriate services.

· Monitor youth participation and engagement, identify opportunities for additional support, and communicate concerns to the appropriate team members.

· Collect youth feedback and contribute to the evaluation and continuous improvement of workshops and activities.

· Meet regularly with the Senior Manager and Project Reclaim team to provide updates, review program progress, and plan strategies.

· Assist with the preparation and submission of program reports, service statistics, attendance records, and other required documentation.

· Record participant attendance and maintain accurate program records in accordance with agency standards.

· Attend off-site locations, community activities, and trips with youth as required by program needs.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

· University degree or college diploma in a related field, such as Child and Youth Care, Social Service Work, Social Work, Social Sciences, or another relevant discipline.

· Minimum of three years of experience developing and facilitating workshops for at-risk or marginalized youth.

· Experience working within an anti-racist and anti-oppressive framework.

· Demonstrated experience working with youth from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, and developmental backgrounds.

· Experience working with youth impacted by violence, trauma, social exclusion, or other barriers to success is an asset.

· Experience working collaboratively with schools, community organizations, and other service providers is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

· Demonstrated knowledge of programs and services available to youth, parents, and the broader Scarborough community.

· Knowledge of and sensitivity to the experiences, challenges,



and needs of at-risk youth, acquired through lived experience, professional experience, or a combination of both.

· Knowledge of and experience applying trauma-informed approaches.

· Strong crisis management, conflict resolution, life-skills coaching, group facilitation, and youth engagement skills.

· Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, written and verbal communication, and presentation skills.

· Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with youth, families, community partners, staff, and volunteers.

· Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships with marginalized individuals while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

· Strong leadership, program planning, organization, and time-management skills.

· Ability to develop and facilitate engaging, culturally responsive, and inclusive programming.

· Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

· Enthusiastic, energetic, and creative approach to youth engagement and program development.

· Genuine interest in working with youth ages 13–29 and a clear understanding of youth development and the barriers faced by marginalized youth.

· Knowledge of youth violence prevention, restorative practices, and community-based approaches is an asset.

· Self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.

Additional Requirements

· Legally eligible to work in Canada.

· Valid Standard First Aid and CPR/AED certification.

· Explicit Police Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, or willingness to obtain.

· HIGH FIVE certification, or willingness to obtain certification before employment.

· Valid Ontario G driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for organizational business, including travel to schools, community locations, and partner sites.
