Dispatcher / Load Planner – LTL & FTL

JHS Logistics Ltd. is looking for an experienced and motivated Dispatcher / Load Planner to join our growing operations team.

We are an asset-based trucking company specializing in temperature-controlled freight across Canada and the USA. We are looking for someone who can help keep our trucks moving by actively sourcing profitable LTL and FTL loads, planning efficient routes, coordinating pickups and deliveries, and keeping customers and drivers updated throughout the shipment.

This is a hands-on role for someone who understands the freight market and knows how to keep equipment productive.

Key Responsibilities

Load Sourcing & Planning

- Actively source and negotiate profitable LTL and FTL loads through load boards, brokers, direct customers, and other freight sources.
- Identify loads that fit our equipment, lanes, schedules, and driver availability.
- Build efficient load plans and minimize empty miles.
- Negotiate rates and confirm all load details before booking.
- Plan multi-stop, LTL, and FTL shipments when appropriate.
- Coordinate pickups, deliveries, appointments, and driver schedules.

Dispatch & Operations

- Dispatch trucks and communicate load instructions clearly to drivers.
- Monitor shipments from pickup through delivery.
- Track driver locations, ETAs, appointment times, and delivery status.
- Proactively identify and resolve delays, missed appointments, breakdowns, or other issues.
- Communicate with brokers, shippers, receivers, and drivers throughout the shipment.
- Obtain and follow up on PODs and other required documentation.
- Maintain accurate load and dispatch records.

Tracking & Customer Service

- Provide consistent shipment tracking and updates.
- Monitor loads throughout the day and keep customers/brokers informed.
- Respond quickly to operational issues and find practical solutions.




- Build professional relationships with brokers and customers to develop repeat freight opportunities.

What We're Looking For
- Minimum 1 year of trucking dispatch experience.
- Proven ability to source LTL and FTL freight.
- Strong understanding of load boards and the North American freight market.
- Experience negotiating rates with brokers and/or shippers.
- Understanding of reefer/temperature-controlled freight is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. trucking lanes.
- Experience tracking trucks and providing shipment updates.
- Strong route planning and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills with drivers, brokers, and customers.
- Ability to work independently and make quick operational decisions.
- Solid attention to detail and organization.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced trucking environment.
- Experience with dispatch/TMS software and load boards.
