Position Summary The Fleet Operations Manager oversees fleet operations, manages fleet staff, equipment maintenance and scheduling, and regulatory compliance for the company's waste collection services. This role oversees all Drivers, Loaders and equipment maintenance personnel while providing leadership and support to two Dispatchers responsible for route operations and administration/compliance functions.

The Fleet Operations Manager ensures safe, efficient, and compliant operations through effective workforce management, fleet oversight, route optimization, preventative maintenance coordination, and adherence to all applicable transportation, environmental, and workplace safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Operation Management

· Direct and oversee daily fleet and collection operations to ensure efficient and reliable service delivery.

· Manage all Drivers, Loaders, and equipment maintenance personnel.

· Supervise and support Dispatch staff, ensuring strong coordination between routing, administration, and compliance functions.

· Monitor operational performance, productivity, service levels, and customer commitments.

· Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.

· Respond to operational issues, service disruptions, equipment failures, and emergency situations.

Fleet & Equipment Management

· Oversee the company's fleet of collection vehicles, roll-off trucks, support vehicles, and related equipment.

· Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules and repair programs to maximize fleet uptime and reliability.

· Work closely with internal or external maintenance providers to prioritize repairs and maintenance activities.

· Monitor vehicle inspections, defect reporting, and repair completion.

· Oversee fleet utilization and replacement planning.

· Track maintenance costs, fuel consumption, and equipment performance.

· Ensure all vehicles and equipment meet safety, operational, and regulatory requirements.

Regulatory Compliance

· Serve as the primary operational lead for transportation and fleet compliance.

· Ensure compliance with all applicable transportation, labour, environmental, municipal, provincial/state, and occupational health and safety regulations.

· Maintain required vehicle, driver, and fleet records.

· Oversee driver qualification files, licensing, training records,



and compliance documentation.

· Monitor electronic logging systems, inspections, and reporting requirements where applicable.

· Lead investigations related to vehicle incidents, near misses, and workplace safety events.

· Implement corrective actions and preventive measures as required.

Leadership and Staff Management

· Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate Drivers, Loaders, Dispatchers, and operational personnel.

· Establish performance expectations and accountability standards.

· Conduct regular performance reviews and coaching sessions.

· Promote a positive safety culture and strong team environment.

· Coordinate employee scheduling, attendance management, and workforce planning.

· Support employee development, training, and succession planning initiatives.

Dispatch & Route Coordination

· Collaborate with the Route Operations Dispatcher to optimize routes, improve efficiency, and maximize asset utilization.

· Review route productivity, service metrics, and operational performance reports.

· Ensure adequate staffing and equipment resources are available to meet service requirements.

· Assist in resolving routing challenges, customer service issues, and field operational concerns.

Administration & Compliance Support

· Work closely with the Dispatcher, Administration and Compliance, to maintain accurate records and reporting.

· Review operational documentation, inspection reports, maintenance records, and compliance audits.

· Ensure timely completion of regulatory submissions and internal reporting requirements.

· Participate in budget planning and cost-control initiatives.

Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities

· Champion workplace health and safety programs and ensure compliance with company policies.

· Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, and operational training.

· Monitor and enforce safe work practices in the field and at the shop.

· Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).





· Promote environmental stewardship and responsible waste management practices.

Qualifications

Education

· Post-secondary education in Transportation, Logistics, Operations Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.

· Equivalent combination of education and industry experience will be considered.

Experience

· Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in fleet, transportation, waste management, logistics, or related operations.

· Experience managing drivers, dispatch personnel, and field operations teams is considered an asset.

· Strong understanding of commercial fleet maintenance and equipment management.

· Experience with transportation compliance and safety regulations.

· Previous waste management, municipal services, construction, trucking, or environmental services experience is considered an asset.

· Effective written and verbal communication skills.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and operational reporting systems.

· Availability to respond to operational issues outside regular business hours when required.
