Job title: Food Sovereignty Coordinator

Job Purpose:

Coordinator is responsible for support for food sovereignty and food security initiatives across SERDC member communities and oversight of the Harvesters Support Grant in three remote and isolated First Nations communities in Manitoba that receive the Harvesters Support Grant funding.

The Harvesters Support

Grant is intended to support Indigenous Harvesters to engage in traditional hunting, fishing, and harvesting activities, as well as support food sharing practices and increasing access to purchased food when required.

The Food Sovereignty Coordinator will work with the community coordinators and will be responsible for project planning, coordination, liaison, and community engagement, as needed; they will also provide ongoing project monitoring, assessments of needs and reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Program Coordination and Service Delivery

· Guides and ensures effective and appropriate daily activities/services in the provision of all Harvesters Support Grant fund disbursements, program support, and services.

· Provides coordination support to the Harvesters Support Grant Community Coordinators in daily operations, new program development, and partnership engagement.

· Assures service quality to provide safe and effective service to clients and meet community food security needs.

· Implements and revises operational plans to achieve objectives.

2. Community Engagement and Partnership

· Liaises and works effectively with a wide variety of external stakeholders including funders, community agencies, associations, and other community health centres.

· Ensures development projects are based on community needs, fit within available resources, and are planned collaboratively with internal and external partners.

· Participates in the development and implementation of community food security initiatives.

3. Financial and Resource Management

· Manages operations within the available budget, resources and provides variance reporting accordingly.





· Seek out other funding opportunities to promote food security and food sovereignty in all SERDC communities.

4. Program Reporting and Evaluation

· Prepare regular reports on program activities, outcomes, and challenges for internal and external stakeholders.

· Contribute to program evaluation efforts by collecting data, conducting surveys, and gathering feedback from participants and stakeholders.

5. Other Responsibilities

· Effectively motivates people to ensure high performance, teamwork, and team-oriented relationships within an interdisciplinary framework.

· Develops, implements, and evaluates strategies to meet community food security needs and fulfill funder obligations.

· Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills

Education

· Post-secondary degree in a relevant field or significant equivalent experience in food security.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

· 3-5 years demonstrated experience in food security, cultural safety, and community coordination, preferably within First Nation communities.

· Experience with grant and proposal writing.

· Demonstrated experience in program coordination and management, including implementation and evaluation.

· Advanced knowledge and appreciation of the social determinants of health and the impact on communities

· Demonstrated group facilitation abilities, capacity building experience and strong analytical skills.

· Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills as well as excellent leadership capabilities

· Posses a explicit Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search and Child and Adult Abuse Registry Checks.

· Possess a Class 5 Drivers License and reliable insured vehicle.

DESIRED:

· Ability to speak Ojibwe

· Registered Dietitian

Working Conditions

· Willing and able to travel by all forms of transportation, to remote Southeast First Nation communities in Manitoba.

· Must have access to a reliable insured vehicle and valid Manitoba Driver’s License.

· Generally, work in an office environment – fast paced and busy at times.

· Work a standard work week of 40hrs.

· Additional hours beyond the standard regular hours of work may be required.
