Freelance Content Creator – Food & Hotel (iPhone / Social-First)
Location: St. John's (on-site at our property) | Type: Freelance / Contract | Pay: $200 –$500 per project (2 x projects/month).

About us
We're a lifestyle hotel group operating multiple properties across Canada, including a hotel hotels in St. John's. Our hotels are known for thoughtful design, great food and drink, and genuine local hospitality. Our employer name will be shared with shortlisted candidates.
We're building a roster of St. John's-based creators who can capture what it actually feels like to stay, eat and drink with us, and turn it into scroll-stopping content for Instagram, TikTok and our other social channels. You know the city, from the colourful row houses and the harbour to its restaurant and bar scene, and you know how to make it look its best.
The role
This is a freelance, project-based role. You'll plan, shoot and edit short-form content on your iPhone at our property, following our brand guidelines while bringing your own creative eye. We're hiring for two specialties. Apply for one or both:
- Food & Beverage: plated dishes, cocktails and coffee, chef and bartender moments, menu launches, and the energy of our restaurant and bar.
- Hotel & Lifestyle: rooms and suites, amenities, arrival and guest experience, team stories, and the neighbourhood around the hotel.
What you'll do
- Shoot vertical (9:16) video and photos on iPhone for Reels, TikTok, Stories and feed posts.
- Create native, platform-first formats: strong hooks in the first 1–2 seconds, POV, room tours, behind-the-scenes, sound-led and ASMR-style food clips, "day in the life" and trend-based concepts.
- Edit content in mobile or desktop apps (e.g. CapCut, Edits, VN, Lightroom Mobile), including on-screen text, captions, pacing and audio.
- Follow our brand guidelines closely: colour and grade, framing, tone of voice,
typography and the "do's and don'ts" of how we show our spaces.
- Work with on-property teams (General Manager, chef, F&B; and marketing) to schedule shoots with minimal disruption to guests.
- Respect guest privacy. Only feature guests or staff who have signed a release.
- Deliver organized edited files plus selected raw footage and stills within 5-7 business days of each shoot, using our naming and folder structure.
- Pitch ideas based on trends, seasonal menus and what's happening in St. John's.
What we're looking for
- A portfolio of iPhone-shot food and/or hospitality content. Links to Instagram, TikTok or a shared folder are all fine.
- A solid grasp of social-first principles: vertical framing, hooks, pacing, sound-on vs. sound-off viewing, native text and how each platform differs.
- A strong eye for light (natural and mixed indoor), composition and styling, including basic food and room styling.
- Confidence with iPhone camera settings (e.g. exposure lock, Cinematic/Action mode, ProRAW/ProRes, Log) and mobile editing tools.
- The ability to work from a creative brief and brand guide, and still make the content feel fresh.
- A professional, friendly presence on property. You're comfortable working around guests and busy teams.
- Based in or near St. John's, with availability for weekday / weekend / early-morning / evening shoots.
- Your own recent iPhone (iPhone 13 Pro or newer preferred) and basic kit: gimbal or stabilizer, tripod, compact light and wireless mic.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
Nice to have
- Experience in hospitality, restaurants or tourism.
- Food styling or set-dressing experience.
- Comfort appearing on camera or doing voice-over.
- Experience with UGC or paid social assets, and a basic understanding of performance metrics (reach, watch time, saves, shares).
- Photography with a dedicated camera, or a Transport Canada drone pilot certificate.
