Destination Exploration (DE) is seeking a part time Arconic STEM Club Instructor ($19.00/hour, 8-10 hours/week) for its in-school Arconic STEM Club to begin October 19th, 2026.
DE is the University of Lethbridge’s Youth STEM organization located in the Science Commons on campus with a mission to bring science and technology to life in a fun and educational manner. We are seeking a creative and motivated person to develop and run our Arconic In-School STEM Clubs for junior high students (gr 6-9) which run Friday afternoons at local schools from November 4 to December 11 – extending to March 2027 is availability remains. This will include developing creative and hands-on STEM lessons and implementing these with club participants and evaluation.
As this club will run off-campus, the instructors must possess a valid driver’s license and vehicle.
An individual in this position will gain experience in public speaking, classroom management, educational lesson planning, administration skills and valuable communication soft skills. DE programs work with a variety of technology used in K-12 education that you will be taught how to use effectively such as Spheros, Ozobots, Makey Makey, Micro:bit, TinkerCAD and 3D printing.
The main duties and qualifications of this position include the following:
ARCONIC STEM CLUB INSTRUCTOR
- Grades 6 - 9
- 5-8 hours per week
- Flexible prep hours during the week
- Must be available between 11:30am-3:00pm Fridays
- $19.00/hour
- Start date week of Oct 19
Duties:
- Prepare activities and programs for a 4-week club session and delivery them weekly alongside a partner instructor.
- Plan and delivery an Arconic STEM Day event late March
- Build a database of STEM mentors for future club use.
- Work with other staff members to coordinate activities and engage all club members.
- Assist students with activities as needed and encourage a safe, team atmosphere.
- Maintain club space and program materials.
- Conduct program evaluation.
- Ensure that all participants conduct themselves safely within a safe environment.
Qualifications:
- Clean current criminal record check (including vulnerable sector).
- Must hold a valid licence & access to a vehicle .
- Experience working with school-aged children.
- A strong background or knowledge in a scientific or technology field.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- High aptitude for technology would be an asset.
