FUND DEVELOPMENT & COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

Choices for Youth Inc. (CFY) is a professional service, youth-focused, non-profit, charitable organization that creates spaces and conversations, and operates programs and social enterprises to help vulnerable youth secure stable housing, employment, and education while improving health and family stability. With a focus on prevention, intervention, and support, we help youth and their families break cycles of poverty and homelessness and transition to healthy, stable, and independent lives.

CFY is seeking to hire one (1) full time, permanent, Fund Development and Communications Officer to join our Fund Development and Communications Team. The team oversees all aspects of communications, marketing, and fundraising for CFY and provides support to the organization.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Fund Development and Communications the Fund Development and Communications Officer will play a key role within the FDC team to help lead all aspects of marketing and communications while driving fund development initiatives that advance CFY’s mission and growth. For this pivotal role, CFY is seeking a fund development professional strong in donor engagement, relationship management, leading and supporting fundraising events, grant writing, and volunteer management. CFY is seeking a professional equally strong in communications with a full range of skills – content creation, graphic design, social media, public relations, and digital communications, who can bring both creative vision and execution to organization’s mission.

The successful candidate is self-motivated, detail oriented, a highly skilled writer, thrives in a collaborative environment, and takes initiative.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Lead the development and writing of grant applications and funding proposals for foundations, corporations, and other institutional funders.
- Plan, manage, and execute fundraising campaigns and events
- Research and determine viability for new fundraising initiatives
- Build new community partnerships to grow fundraising events portfolio
- Seek out and support third-party fundraising events




- Recruit and manage event volunteers
- Secure event sponsorship
- Manage activities within allocated fundraising events budgets
- Advise on budgetary needs for fundraising portfolio
- Support CFY social media platforms
- Support the creation and update content for CFY communications platforms
- Represent CFY in occasional media and public speaking engagements as needed
- Seek out and attend community building events that align with organizational values
- Help foster a social justice approach among colleagues
- Other duties as required

REQUIRED SKILLS & SPECIFICATIONS

- Demonstrated ability to manage and execute fundraising events
- Proven relationship building skills
- Exceptional written communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Quick problem-solving abilities
- Experience in the non-profit or charitable sector (preferred)
- Ability to exhibit a high level of confidentiality and flexibility towards change
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed
- A satisfactory certificate of conduct and vulnerable sector check is required and must be bondable

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

- Post-secondary degree in business, communications, marketing, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experiences
- A minimum of 2 years experience in leading and executing fundraising events and campaigns, communications, marketing or in a business development environment
- Experience working with social media scheduling and monitoring tools
- Experience working with strategic partners and sponsors
- Experience with presentations, public speaking, and media appearance
- Experience in project cost estimations and budgeting
- An active driver licence and occasional access to a vehicle

- Membership of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP)

WORK HOURS The is an in-office position with a total of 37.5 hours per week. Flexibility in work hours will be required for events and engagements. COMPENSATION The salary for this position is $51,495.21 - $57,203.64 annually. CFY offers a competitive compensation package, including: a health and dental program, employer-matched RRSP and four weeks’ vacation to qualifying employees.
