Purpose The Human Resources Manager is responsible for overseeing human resources functions to support organizational goals and ensure compliance with employment legislation, company policies, and best practices. This role provides operational HR oversight in payroll administration, recruitment, employee relations, compensation, benefits and pension administration, employee engagement, policy development, workforce planning, and organizational effectiveness.
Reporting directly to the General Manager of People & Culture, the Human Resources Manager serves as a trusted advisor to the HR Analyst, employees and managers on people-related matters while fostering a positive, productive, and engaged workplace culture.
This is a full-time, permanent position. The position will be working directly from the RMA offices in Nisku, AB.
Responsibilities and Activities
- Oversee and ensure the accurate and timely completion of payroll.
- Review payroll reports and resolve discrepancies.
- Ensure compliance with federal and provincial payroll legislation.
- Coordinate year-end payroll activities, including T4 preparation and distribution.
- Maintain payroll records and reporting requirements.
- Ensure completion of all onboarding documentation and compliance requirements.
- Support managers in the effective integration of new employees.
- Manage employee benefit programs and pension plans.
- Serve as the primary contact for employee benefits and pension inquiries.
- Liaise with benefit and pension providers regarding eligibility, enrollment, changes, and claims.
- Ensure accurate maintenance of benefits and pension records.
- Support annual reviews and renewals of benefits programs.
- Partner with hiring managers to identify staffing requirements.
- Lead end-to-end recruitment activities for the organization.
- Develop and communicate employment offers.
- Monitor recruitment metrics and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Develop and implement employee engagement initiatives.
- Organize staff social events and recognition programs.
- Conduct employee one-on-one meetings as required.
- Provide HR coaching and guidance to employees and managers.
- Support employee wellness and retention strategies.
- Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
- Provide guidance and support regarding workplace concerns and conflict resolution
- Coach managers on performance management, attendance management, and workplace conduct matters.
- Provide guidance to leaders throughout employee termination processes.
- Coordinate with legal counsel when required.
- Ensure terminations are conducted in compliance with employment legislation and company policies.
- Prepare and manage all termination documentation and communications.
- Coordinate final pay, benefits, and offboarding procedures.
- Maintain and periodically review HR policies, procedures, and programs.
- Recommend revisions to policies to reflect legislative and organizational changes.
- Participate on Board committees as required.
- Prepare reports and presentations for Board members.
- Support leaders in resolving personnel and organizational challenges.
- Support with workforce planning and succession planning activities.
- Support and administer incentive pay and compensation programs.
- Evaluate internal compensation equity.
- Provide recommendations regarding wage structures and salary adjustments.
- Support development and administration of compensation programs.
- Coordinate year-end payroll and T4 processes.
- Manage year-end pension reporting requirements.
- Ensure completion of annual employment-related reporting.
- Support organizational audits and compliance reviews.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Diploma or Degree in Human Resources, Commerce, or a related field.
- Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR)
designation is an asset
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive Human Resources experience.
- Experience in payroll administration, recruitment, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and policy development.
- Strong understanding of employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, and privacy legislation.
- Knowledge of payroll, pension, and benefits management.
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies, and employment agreements.
- Strong recruitment and talent acquisition skills.
- Excellent conflict resolution and employee relations abilities.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with HRIS, payroll systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
